Doctor Who’s David Tennant Showing Up in The Clone Wars

We’re all caught up in the big news that Star Wars is likely getting a new TV show or two because of the deal with Disney, but we can’t forget about the Lucasfilm shows that are already on the air.

One is The Clone Wars, the better-than-it-should-be animated feature on Cartoon Network that gives us a better, more detailed look at the prequel universe than the actual prequel films did.

The series has seen its fair share of guest stars, but none quite like this. IGN reports that David Tennant will appear in an upcoming episode. And who will the good Doctor play? A droid named Huyang, part of an episode where young  Jedi build their first lightsabers. Supervising Director Dave Filoni how they reached out to Tennant.

“As a fan that has the privilege of playing in the Star Wars galaxy, I am always on the lookout for others who appreciate, and would enjoy, an opportunity to go on an adventure in George’s galaxy far, far away. When I heard the Doctor himself, David Tennant, was a fan of Star Wars I knew I had to find a way to get in contact with him to see if he would perform on The Clone Wars. The result was ‘Huyang,’ an ancient droid in the service of the Jedi Order, whose sole task in life has been overseeing the construction of lightsabers. I thought David was perfect for the part and he did not disappoint. He delivered a performance which impressed even the Master himself, George Lucas.”

High praise, and look for Tennant to appear in an upcoming episode shortly. A clip of him in action as the droid can be found here.
