Drake To Host The ESPYs

When exactly did it happen? By it, I mean the merge between sports and hip hop? I would say is started in the 90’s and just carried itself forward. To deny the connection between the two would be foolish, as it seems they have a sort of co-existence. For proof of this, look no further than who the ESPY’s got to host this year. Why, none other than rapper and former Degressi High alum, Drake. Guess he really did start from the bottom now he’s here. If by here he meant the ESPYs.

As many of you Drake fans know, Drake is a huge sports fan, and ESPN felt like that, matched up with how popular he has been in the last couple years, would make him a great host of the 2014 ESPYs. I will admit, the choice may seem a bit strange to me (Drake’s last album was filled with singy songy tracks about girls and about him being sad. Not exactly the key album to run some ball to) but we are sure Drake hosting will bring in some heads that may have otherwise not watched the awards show, so we get what ESPN is going for. Uproxx shares some more about the star and his penchant to hug NBA players and gaze at them longingly.

The ESPY’s will air on July 17th on ESPN, so make sure to check your local listings. Also, follow Drake on twitter, as he will undoubtedly remind people about this every couple weeks.
