To fans of the Family Guy this news will hardly come as a shock. The sexual orientation of the vocally adept Stewie has always been something that was hinted at and leaned closer to the homosexual side of things than the heterosexual side. But in an interview with Playboy magazine, which hits stands tomorrow, Seth MacFarlane spills the beans on baby Stewie's sexual preference as well as other secrets about the upcoming season of his Emmy nominated animated series (try saying that 3 times fast).
In one quote MacFarlane says,
"We had an episode that went all the way to the script phase in which Stewie does come out. It had to do with the harassment he took from other kids at school. He ends up going back in time to prevent a passage in Leviticus from being written: ‘Thou shalt not lie with mankind as with womankind. It is an abomination.’
"But we decided it’s better to keep it vague, which makes more sense because he’s a 1-year-old. Ultimately, Stewie will be gay or a very unhappy repressed heterosexual. It also explains why he’s so hellbent on killing [his mother, Lois] and taking over the world: He has a lot of aggression, which comes from confusion and uncertainty about his orientation."
Although we doubt that Family Guy will win any GLAAD Awards, this certainly stands out as the first gay infant on television...ever. MacFarlane went on in the interview saying that this season will also address why Protestant Lois has a Jewish accent.
"Watch this season!” he says. “Lois finds out she is, in fact, Jewish.”
MacFarlane even went so far as to dish out some advice to other nerdy and unpopular girls like Meg saying,
“I guess maybe her parents aren’t as loving as they should be. As a result, I would say, ‘Your parents are a—holes. Get out of the house as soon as you can.”
Family Guy kicks off its eighth season on September 27 on Fox, and has also been nominated for an Emmy, the first animated series to ever achieve such a nomination (despite the critical success of The Simpsons for the past 20 season). You can read the rest of MacFarlane's interview in the September issue of Playboy.

UPDATED: It has been brought to my attention that Stewie Griffin "came out" two years ago at Comic Con. The "most shocking 'coming out' since Adam Lambert" (via @TVDoneWright). LOL. Good one.
So obviously what the New York Daily News must have meant was that this is the first time Stewie being gay has been confirmed in Playboy. Hey, it's all I've got people! (thanks @TheSpoilerGirl for smacking me around on this one. :) )
