First off, when I hear there is a new show coming to Cinemax that will be directed by Steven Soderbergh, I get excited. Next, when I hear Clive Owen will be the lead, I get even more excited. Finally, when I hear what the show is about, I get overwhelmingly excited. The Knick, as this ten episode cable series will be called, is about The Knickerbocker Hospital in the early 1900’s. You know, back when surgery was kind of a new thing, and antibiotics didn’t exist Long and the short, there are a lot of people who probably died. Show definitely looks dark, but looks super intriguing.
Also, Clive Owen in a creeper ‘stache. I feel like I need to warn you about that before you even watch it. Other than that, I am very much pulled in by this cryptic teaser.
Listen, you can’t make an omelette without breaking a few eggs. It looks like The Knick may focus on thee egg breaking and not so much the actual omelette making. Which, by the way, sounds ideal to me. The actual tagline of the show is:
“Soderbergh will direct all of the episodes. The setting: downtown New York in 1900, a tumultuous time of massive change and great progress. The series centers around the groundbreaking surgeons, nurses and staff at Knickerbocker Hospital, who are pushing the bounds of medicine in a time of astonishingly high mortality rates and zero antibiotics.” (via Uproxx)
Well, color me excited. Good talent on board and a very intriguing and twisted concept. We will keep you posted on The Knick the more we learn.
