Five Great Shows That Never Won Emmys

With the Oscars coming up, it’s important to remember that awards are tricky things. The Emmys are more or less the TV Oscars, and so I thought I’d look back at quality shows that never won an award for either Best Drama or Best Comedy. Generally, I tried to steer away from shows that are still on the air, as there still could be hope. Some of these might be understandable, but by the end of the list we’ve just reached outright blasphemy. See if you agree and check out the list below:

Oz

oz

Nominations for casting and best guest actor (Charles Dutton). HBO is usually bathing in Emmys, but that wasn’t the case for prison drama Oz which received limited nominations and no wins whatsoever.

Community

One win for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation. I suppose this doesn’t count because it won, but getting an animation award for its claymation Christmas episode shouldn’t count. The fact that it hasn’t been nominated for best comedy over shows like The Big Bang Theory is criminal.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

buffy

Nominations for visual effects, make-up, hairstyling, sound editing, and writing. Joss Whedon’s original vampire hit may have been a cult classic with some of the best scripted episode on television, but it never did end up winning an Emmy, and was never even up for best drama at all.

The Shield

the shield

Nominations for writing, directing, Lead Actress (Glenn Close), and Supporting Actress (CCH Pounder) Win for lead actor (Michael Chiklis) The Emmys seem to not be a fan of Kurt Sutter. I haven’t lost hope for Sons of Anarchy yet, but The Shield never won a best drama Emmy despite nominations and wins in big categories as seen above.

The Wire

the wire

Nominated twice for writing. The most egregious offense on the list, perhaps the best drama of all time never won an Emmy, and was barely even nominated. I still to this day do not understand what sort of vendetta the voters must have had against this show to not even consider it. It just does not make sense.
