The new TBS cartoon “Tarantula is a bit odd, and a little crude, but it’s filled with educational lessons. You may just watch because it’s entertaining, but if you’re not careful, you may learn something. Here are five real life lessons that we learn from watching the show.
You can’t believe everything you hear
In the second episode of season one, our favorite tattoo artist is playing a game of pool in the local bar. The conversation turns to the labels that are placed on the fruits and vegetables that are sold in grocery stores. He shares that the labels are made of soy products and are perfectly safe. A guy who is at the bar counters his statement and asserts that they are actually made of toxic materials. The artist reaffirms that he read an article that said the labels were safe, but the drinker at the bar pulls up another article on his smart phone that in fact states that the labels are toxic. While it may be a small thing, we learn that it’s probably highly likely that some of the labels are safe and some of them are not. This scene just goes to show you that you can’t believe everything that you hear, or that you read online. Some things can be true, but with limitations and you shouldn’t merely take somebody’s word for it.
You can’t always get what you want
There are times when it doesn’t matter how charming you are or how well you state your case, you’re not going to get what you want. That is, unless you take matters into your own hands. Echo Johnson is accompanied by Bess to a fast food establishment where he presents two eggs. He asks if the staff will fry them and put them on his order, but they steadfastly refuse because it is against the company policy to prepare any food items that are not directly from the corporation. Echo eventually gives up, but he finds a hot surface and fries his own eggs at the eatery anyway. He’s the kind of guy that doesn’t give up that easily.
Not everything in life is fair
Lucas learns this very valuable lesson as he confronts the Canaan pictures mogul who stole his screenplay. He’s there to get satisfaction but he learns that he’s up against the wall because the thief who is living the high life has an entire team of high priced attorneys at his disposal and Lucas doesn’t have the financial means to win in a lawsuit. As luck would have it, Echo is there to help him pick up the pieces and take him home.
Sometimes you have to cramp your style to get ahead in life
there are some people who refuse to change their writing style to sell a manuscript. Lucas learns that important lesson when his latest submission is rejected. To take it a step further, the company has banned him from making any further submissions because of the racist content that they find to be quite objectionable. We learn that getting ahead in the world means that you must conform to social standards if you want your work to be accepted.
Some mushrooms can make you fly
Echo Johnson thinks that he’s found the rainbows end as he and his pal pack the monster sized fungus from out of the mountains. As they move down the hill, the world starts to change colors for Johnson. Of course it’s a hallucinogenic mushroom, but we learn that the compounds that cause hallucinations are easily absorbed through the skin and there are some mushrooms that can take you on a wild trip.
