Five Life Lessons “Homestead Rescue” Teaches Us

Since it was released, Homestead Rescue continues to gain popularity with many viewers airing their opinions on a daily basis. Some criticize it while others are in utmost favor for it. For those who do not know, Homestead rescue is a reality TV show in which Raney and his family visit people who have just begun living the off-grid life or those who started a long time back but are still struggling to get to their feet wet with the country life. Raney’s family goes to visit them to help them out with the necessary skills which they need to survive the harsh conditions which Mother Nature serves them.  Referring to one of the episodes, below are five life lessons that Homestead Rescue teaches us and which could come in handy no matter our lifestyle.

Nothing good comes easy irrelevant of where it is

TV and radio channels always portray the off-grid life as one which is filled with sunshine and rainbow making all those who yearn to lead a quiet and self-sufficient living in a remote location think it is easy to achieve it. However, Homestead rescue shows the good and the ugly side of off-grid life and lets us know that it is not a bed of roses. Similar to living in urban areas, it has its ups and downs and takes a lot of commitment and hard work before it can finally be smooth sailing. Hence one life lesson which we get from all the episodes is that nothing good comes easy. The off-grid life is fun, but it comes with a rocky start and also a lot of hardships, but once you work them out, it could be all fun and games.

We need each other

In most cases, the families which Marty Raney and his children visit have a common bond. They moved away from areas of high civilization so they could lead more private lives. Yes, we all feel the need for privacy but secluding ourselves from urbanization too much is not healthy because as humans we are created in a way that we need each other. For instance, in the case of Beth and Mike, they moved to a very distant homestead in Wolf Creek Mountains with only a few dwellings, no water and at a high risk of snow storms. Owing to that they undergo problems, but with fewer neighbors who are meters apart from each other, they have no one to turn to. Therefore one life lesson from homesteaders is that no one is self-sufficient and we all need each other.

Preparedness is the key to survival not only in remote areas but also life in general

Another life lesson from Homestead is that we should always be ready. We will refer to the same episode of Beth and Mike. The couple had not prepared themselves well enough as they moved to Wolf Creek six months after selling their house which was in a more civilized location. Six months were not enough to consider all the necessary aspects of survival in the area. It was also not enough to think of the right business idea or the ways which they will use to sustain themselves, and that is why Raney’s family finds them with an empty nest as they have not yet found the right ideas. As a result, we get a valuable life lesson that in life no matter what is currently happening to us, it is essential always to plan early to avoid rude surprises from reality.

It is essential to have realistic dreams

Referring to the same episode, Beth has big goals which make it difficult even to get started. Having big ideas is okay, but we should at least begin with those which can be achieved easily so they can guide us to the next big thing. Otherwise, it will be difficult even to make a step when all we see is focusing on the bigger dream yet we have not accomplished even the smaller steps which take us there.

Unity is the secret ingredient to success

In most of the episodes, Raney and his children work together with the struggling families and the results are impeccable. During the beginning of most episodes, some members of the family visited by Raney do not want to co-operate. For instance, Beth was a little rigid which made it difficult for the Raney’s to work with her, but once she got the wave of it, what the two families achieved was beautiful. Thus in life working in harmony is the best way to achieve success, we not only make accomplishments but we also gain new skills which we learn from each other.
