How “Fixer Upper: Behind the Design” Differs from “Fixer Upper”

Fans mourned the end of the hit HGTV show “Fixer Upper.” The whole nation fell in love with the Waco, Texas couple Chip and Joanna Gaines instantly after their first episode aired just a few years ago. We’ve also seen the couple grow their Magnolia empire onscreen–starting from just their construction company to what now includes a bakery, a silo, a restaurant, a couple of books, a furniture line at Target, and a few more. Chip, Jo, and their family has taught us a lot over the years about renovating and decorating, but their allure was more than just that. They touched the hearts of people because of their personalities, their unmistakably authentic love and affection for each other, and their obvious passion for everything that they did.

Fortunately, we don’t have to completely miss the two and their wonderful Waco world. “Fixer Upper” is getting a spinoff called “Fixer Upper: Behind the Design.” The decision and announcement to do the spinoff was made over a year ago, and Chip and Jo were actually filming episodes for the series at the same time they were filming for “Fixer Upper.” We know that they must get a lot of help from people around them, but we can’t even imagine the amount of work the couple has to do every single day. If that’s not dedication to their craft, we’re not sure what could be. We can’t forget that the couple has 4 kids as well with another one on the way. How do they even manage it?

Hopefully we can get some answers from the new show, “Fixer Upper: Behind the Design.” Although we’ll be seeing the couple like we did in the past, this new show will focus more on Joanna and her inspirations for her designs. The show will basically revisit some of Joanna’s favorite design makeovers from the original show. It’ll be a half hour full of talk about how those designs were achieved. For those who are just fascinated with Joanna’s chic and comfy farmhouse decorating style, we’ll also get a lot of tips and ideas on how to achieve similar looks. The Magnolia design is fresh, clean, simple, and extremely attractive. It’s also quite manageable and doable on your own, especially since Joanna tends to find a lot of her gems at farmer’s markets, garage sales, and consignment shops.

“Fixer Upper: Behind the Design” will stay true to its name. It’ll focus on the design aspects rather than the makeover process. It’ll be a nice change for once, especially since there are already a host of home makeover shows on HGTV that we already watch. Plus, we consider Joanna Gaines a true genius in her craft; it couldn’t hurt to get more insight into how her brain works. We’ll also get glimpses of her life with Chip and the rest of the family as well, being that Joanna’s biggest inspiration is her family. In short, the new show will be quite different from the original show. That may be the case, but it still feels like home.
