While the NFL is still working out whether or not they will have a football season this fall, BET has already made plans for their own football 'franchise' to return in Janury 2012.
USA Today announced that BET has already given the greenlight for a fifth season to their breakout series The Game, which premiered to 7.7 million viewers in January, equaling in high numbers for the cable network and the highest numbers in cable history. Instead of 13 episodes next season, BET blessed the show with a full 22-episode commitment, which seems like a valid response given how much The Game has brought to network.
No word has been on who will return to the show full time. The recent fourth season saw the (possible) departure of original cast member Brittany Daniel, who portrayed Kelly Pitts and had her role reduced down to recurring until midway into the season when Kelly left the show to find herself. Coby Bell, Daniel's onscreen ex-husband, also had his role reduced due to his series regular role on USA's Burn Notice.
The Game, which was canceled by The CW after three seasons in 2009, might have returned to high numbers, but the ratings dropped to a steadying 5 million viewers, which is still pretty good on cable television. The fans of the show, however, have voiced their mostly negative opinions on the show's fourth season, which most have blamed on various reasons ranging from the show's writing to the short episode order by BET. There was also rumbling pleas from the fans to extend the show's 30 minute format into an hour dramedy, but nothing has been announced officially on a format change at this time.
Let's Stay Together, the lead out show for The Game, was also granted a renewal which will consist of 22 episodes as well.
BET Upfronts won't be held until next Wednesday where more information will be given. TVO will keep you posted on the latest news on this story as it develops.

This show is the bomb…. It offers an attractive cast as well as an attractive story line. Bummer on the baby being Derwin's (WOW Pooch Hall), but that's life. It makes things more realistic and Melanie's perfect world had an attitude adjustment and she is doing fine with it. "The Rookie" really came up. Kelly was hilarious wit Fabulous, Tasha Mack – hey she's the Mack. Glad to see Brittney go, kinda boring story line. Sorry guys, get to talking about the game and can go on and on and on….LOVE THIS SHOW, Let's keep it alive BET!!!
I love love love this show and the cast. Hope Kelly comes back, the show wouldnt be the same without her. Cant wait for the 5th season to start!!!!!
I loved the friendship between Melanie, Kelly, and Tasha. I hope Kelly comes back. Great story lines with surprising twists, beautiful people, and funny. Can’t wait for season 5.
I Love the Game, and im thrilled it's coming back for a 5th season… Iv'e been a fan sense the game first started. I was always in front of the television screen, tuned in and waiting with anticipation. Some may say the fourth season wasn't good but i thought it was GREAT. People have to relize that the set of the story was 2 years later, things dont stay the same within that length of time, things change, people grow and get older and with time comes change…thats why i was able to except the new plot of the game the only thing im begging and literally praying for is that Rick Fox returns to the game no else could have that same chemistry with tasha other than Rick and i was dissapointed when I didnt see Rick, I hope he's in the 5th season of the game..

your right things do change after a while but damn they changed the entire cast. maleek was the real one in the season 4 and tasha mac was tasha mac sometines. I dont know where the hell was melonia was at cause that sure wasnt her. Money really changed her and it changed her for the worst and that wasnt her true self and you and i both know that. She has not been about money on the show in her entire life. Hell her dad was a doctor so she was rich when sher started the show she just wanted her own life and not depend on her parents and she was so into being a doctor wasnt nothing more important then her becoming a doctor now all of a sudden she dont want to go that rought bull shit come on now. BET give us what we voted and begged youll to bring back and that was THE GAME. Not that mess in season 4 that youy gave us.
I hate that they did that to brittany daniel. I always loved her character especially when she dressed up in the outfits for Coby. lol. It seems like they didnt listen to the fans and keep the show in its original format. They didnt bring back Irv (an enjoyable character) Brit Brat (they replaced her with the producers family member) or Rick Foxx, yeah Rick Foxx. lol. I do think they need to take it back up to a hour. I do like how Terrance plays Tashas boyfriend on there. Also they need to bring back the REAL tasha mac not the toned down one now. Other than that the show is really great
i agree with you 100%. they did not give us the original game they gave us the derwin and melonie show. Brittney looked like she was 17. I mean come on bet what were you thinking. Bring us back what we asked for THE GAME and not the DAMN DERWIN and MELONIE SHOW. I want the real tasha mac back also. Hell the real brit brat, the real kelly and jason. I mean what did bet give us we voted to bring the game back so give us the damn real game. only person was theirself in my opinion was maleek. I wish the new CW channel take their show back cause BET dont know what the hell they are doing. Sorry for any typo's. Im just pissed that they didnt give us what we fought to get back and that was THE GAME!!!!!!!!!!! Not the melonie and derwin show.

if the game is anything like season 4 i will not watch it. we asked for the game to ome back and it didnt. that show was mostly about derwin and melone (how ever u spell her name) hell kelly and jason need to get back on the show are regular cast and just not in a couple of shows. the game was the bomb season 1, 2, and 3 was season 4 sucked really bad
I agree season was not that good. And they really need to bring back Kelly Pitts, I love her, She really play her parts,I don’t think the show will be the same without Kelly. And yes they did change the whole show very bad mistake season 4 sucks. Change it back, Change back!!!!!!
