Henry Ian Cusick Goes to ‘SVU’

It’s really over. That’s a reality I’m refusing to face, but it seems that I’m going to have to come to terms with it. Desmond has officially “let go,” it seems.

Let me clarify: Henry Ian Cusick has signed onto another show. Law & Order: SVU will be the home of the time-travelling Scotsman for at least two episodes in the fall, according to TV Guide. Cusick will apparently be playing the recurring role of graphic artist Erik Weber. Who is Weber? In the Law & Order world, you’re usually either a victim or a perp, but executive producer Neal Baer says Cusick’s Weber will be neither. Baer, a professed LOST fan, said that Cusick’s character might just be a love interest for main character Olivia Benson, who hasn’t had a romantic interest on the show since 2008. “There might be some flirtation,” Baer told TV Guide. “Erik meets Olivia when he comes to someone’s aid. And then we’ll see how it goes. Olivia is devoted to her job and knows that comes first.”

Baer claims he cast Cusick because he is “a sharp, smart leader and very charismatic.”

Cusick isn’t the first former Islander to venture into the post-LOST television world. Daniel Dae Kim, who played Korean survivor Jin Kwon, has signed on to star on the CBS remake of Hawaii Five-O, while Nestor Carbonell, a.k.a. the ageless Other Richard Alpert, has signed on to a recurring role on USA’s Psych. Cusick will be the third star to go back to TV since LOST‘s end, and I certainly hope he’s not the last. Who wouldn’t love to see Jorge Garcia back on the small screen, or Jeff Fahey? And if Terry O’Quinn and Michael Emerson’s “Hitman in Suburbia” script doesn’t get get picked up by USA, I might just stage a one-person riot.
