There’s a show coming to FOX that I hadn’t heard of until very recently. Chances are, you guys probably haven’t heard much about it either. I’m talking about Human Target, a DC Comics adaptation that will be premiering on small screens on January 17, around twenty years after a short-lived version of Human Target was scrapped.
The three main leads are familiar to any entertainment fan. Mark Valley (John Scott from Fringe) will play Christopher Chance, the main character and the titular human target. Chi McBride, most known for his role as antagonist Edward Vogler from House, will play Chance’s business partner Winston, and Jackie Earle Haley (Rorschach from Watchmen) will play Guerrero, a hired gun and associate of Chance.
The premise of Human Target is almost a procedural; FOX’s official synopsis states that the show revolves around Chance, “a unique private contractor/security guard hired to protect… When there is an unusual or imminent threat that can’t be solved through “normal” means of protection, Chance is hired to completely integrate himself into his clients’ lives – to become the human target.” Chance’s past and its “dark secrets” will also be explored.
The pilot episode was screened at Comic-Con last week. One reviewer, from Endofshow.com, stated that they thought that Human Target’s pilot was better than the pilot for fellow remake V, though they called it “nothing new or original.”
And that’s what I’m afraid of – I don’t want to see another procedural on TV. Not with all the procedurals that currently swarm television (i.e. countless iterations of CSI and NCIS). If a cast as good as this is on TV, I want there to be a good story, and the premise just doesn’t seem like it can go very far without just remaining more of the same. However, that’s not to say it won’t be entertaining – the action sequences promise to be top notch, and in new and exciting environments and situations. The first episode takes place almost entirely on a train, with plenty of action sequences therein.
So I’ll give it a shot. It could go well, or it could go horribly; I don’t think there will be much of a middle ground with audiences on this one. I’ll tune in for the first episode in January (simply because I enjoy watching Jackie Earle Haley act), but my expectations won’t be high. I just hope it’ll be better than its previous iteration.
I have many problems with this post.nbsp; Firstly you were wrong, I had heard of this show. The title of this article makes no sense what was the first chance the show had? And how did it fail it? This one is arguable but I think generally people would know Chi McBride more from Pushing Daisies and not a 6 episode arc on House a couple seasons ago. You first stated that the show is "almost a procedural" then later denounce it for being one. There are not countless iterations of CSI and NCIS, it is 3 and 2 respectively. And what is is the "previous iteration" you hope it will better then?nbsp; Do you mean the original DC comic, the pilot, what?

Boogie, I think many of your problems are misunderstandings.nbsp; First of all, Human Target really isn't gettin a huge push compared to the rest of the nets slates, and bthe second chance is a reference to the Rick Springfield version of the show that aired in the early 90's, and was horrible./bnbsp; Who people know an actor from is all relative, since Sam wrote in the first person I'm okay with his interpretation of who somone is best known from. In general, though, a lot of the nitpicks are the result of reading the article too literally, and not Sam's intent.

Jon's right on all counts.

Far enough I guess, though I still feel like the title was stretching to make a pun.

I don't see how the title is a pun at all.

Didn't even think about that. I purely based the title off the fact that it's a remake of the failed '90's show.

Lol!nbsp; Okay, now I feel a little slow on the uptake because I didn't get that but totally should have.

better this show then another p.o.s. reality show centered around a bunch of hormonally charged teen girls twentysomething women and gay men. im speaking of the audiences of these popularity contests that have been labeled as talent shows. meaning pretty every reality show causenbsp;most of the contestants (including some of the winners) have little or absolutely no talent. its why they get the washed up has beens to be judges.

I got the pun, and loved it.nbsp; That's just the kind of cheese that made the Rick Sprigfield version so great.nbsp; ;) Don't knock it unless you've see thenbsp;episodenbsp;Mirror Image.nbsp; Though I'll admit the last two episodes where a little weak.nbsp;
I predict that people who still enjoy watching A-team and Knight Rider reruns will enjoy the new show, it's easy to watch.
