The NBC drama, Medium, is actually run by CBS TV Studios, and it seems as though the net may be considering a move to its own network. NBC has precious space available on its fall schedule, thanks to Jay Leno snagging up the 10 p.m. slot five nights a week, and it appears that Medium might be one of the shows to bite the bullet there. Talks have reportedly stalled between NBC and CBS TV Studios over the costs for the show's renewal, specifically the license fee and the number of episodes ordered.
While Medium is no ratings giant, CBS has a lot to gain by keeping the show on television. CBS could gain significant revenue in syndication by increasing the number of episodes of Medium that it produces, but the question remains whether CBS has the room to make this move happen at all. Earlier this year they were said to only be looking to add 3 or 4 new shows to their schedule.
To me, this seems nothing more than a feeble attempt to aid in their bargaining with NBC. If NBC doesn't bite, I'd be surprised to see CBS snag Medium over one of its other promising new pilots. Only time will tell, and we'll simply have to wait for CBS to unveil their fall schedule.
