You know, in many ways, Jimmy Fallon has the perfect job. He gets to play dress up and sing along and do duets with his favorite stars of all time, AS his favorite stars of all time. We have seen Jimmy Fallon become Bruce Springsteen. We have seen Jimmy Fallon become Jim Morrison. We have seen Jimmy Fallon become Eddie Vedder. And now, we get to see Jimmy Fallon become Tom Petty and duet with Stevie Nicks. If that is not the best job in the world, I don’t know what is.
Another thing that somehow manages to make this even more remarkable is the simple fact that two of the members of Nirvana introduce them. Like, how does Fallon pull this off so consistently? The other funny part is that Jimmy Fallon becomes Tom Petty and we believe it. That is what makes all these skits work. He is obviously loves the stars he is doing an impression of, and that adoration comes across in the performance. In this case, it is Stop Dragging My Heart Around, and they even put an old school glow on the film so it looks like it came from the 70’s. Genius stuff.
In my opinion, these are the videos that make the internet what it is. We can tell you all about new TV shows and new trailers, but skits like this keep the web light and funny amid all the news and blah blah. Also, Jimmy Fallon, you are the man, and when you retire in 20 years I want your job. Dibs. Calling it now. Or as they say on Walking Dead: CLAIMED!
