Kyle Chandler to Have ‘Powers’ For FX?

FX confirmed yesterday that they would be moving forward with Powers, based on the acclaimed Brian Michael Bendis comics of the same name. Just today, TVLine is reporting that Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights, Early Edition) is being courted by FX for a lead role in the show.

Powers is a police procedural set in a world where superpowers are common. The book centers on two detectives, Deena Pilgrim and Christian Walker, who work for a special police unit that works to solve cases where superheroes commit crimes against humans and/or ‘powers.’ Walker previously was a ‘power’ before he lost his abilities.

The report also says that Powers “will vie with Outlaw Country, a Nashville-set drama starring John Hawkes (Deadwood), Mary Steenburgen (Joan Of Arcadia) and Luke Grimes (Brothers & Sisters), for a spot on the cabler’s schedule next winter.”

It looks like Chandler will be reading an updated version of the Powers script that has incorporated some of his own notes and then make his decision. He’s turned down “a slew” of broadcast pilot offers this season, so we’ll see if this is the show that Coach Taylor picks as his next project. Also, look for Chandler this summer (June 10, mark your calendars) for the J.J. Abrams / Steven Spielberg film Super 8.
