The League Renewed for Season Three

It looks like Andre will get plenty more chances to embarrass himself because The League star Nick Kroll confirmed that the fantasy football comedy has been renewed for a third season. It’s not that big of a surprise, as the show has garnered better reviews this season and had solid retention out of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. However, it had been about a month since the season ended and since FX is pretty quick to decide the fate of its shows, you couldn’t help but be a little worried about its chances.

The hold-up was due to negotiations between the network and creators Jeff and Jackie Schaeffer, first mentioned in FX’s TCA session. I personally assumed negotiations would go on for a few more days before a deal was reached, so it was a nice surprise to see Kroll break the news only 12 or so hours after negotiations became public. The League’s sister show It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia has already been renewed for the upcoming season, its last season of the three season renewal that it received in 2008.

To me, The League is one of the most underrated shows on TV, so its renewal is wonderful news. It’s just the type of raunchy, ballsy comedy that is always necessary in the television landscape; it’s never afraid to push the envelope or make viewers uncomfortable and that’s resulted in some gut busting comedy. Since Sunny is also coming back for another season, I already know how I’ll be spending my Thursday nights come September and I’m more than happy to do so. Here’s to the beauty of a good Shiva blast, a triumphant return of Mr. McGibblets, and plenty of vinegar strokes to make this fall that much more awkward.

What do you think about the renewal of The League? Do you think it goes well with It’s Always Sunny? Any hopes for season three?
