With how popular and controversial Girls has been since its premiere three years ago, I’m surprised it took this long for Lena Dunham to host SNL. But she’s finally be rounded up, and will be hosting March 8th with musical guest The National.
It’s anyone’s guess what sort of skits Dunham will do, but with NBC’s relatively tight decency standards, I doubt there will be too much overlap with the show. There will definitely be at least one Girls skit, but what form that will take, I don’t know.
Naturally with this announcement, like anything Dunham does, she’s being criticized, but show me an article without comments that criticize Dunham, and I’ll show you a pig flying out of a frozen hell. It’s impossible to go anywhere on the internet without hearing her lambasting for her body, personality, or a mix of the two, which is pretty unfair. You can not like her humor or her show, but I’ve never seen any celebrity elicit so many personal attacks, it’s absurd.
Expect more of the same when she hosts SNL. But I also expect her to be funny.
