You know what? Reality dating shows are kind of sad. They’re used to feed the fragile egos of people who need to be seen to feel alive and validated. Well, it seems the Lifetime channel is at least somewhat aware of this, as they just ordered a dating show satire from the woman who helped produce Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Mad Men, Marti Noxon. This actually sounds like it might be kind of awesome. We are intrigued.
The show is called Un-Real, and dark comedy starring Shiri Appleby. It will focus on some of the funnier (and sadder) aspects of reality dating shows. Things like the rose ceremony and moments like that from shows like The Bachelor are sure to be just some of the moments that are openly mocked. The show is set to be an hour long, as much as it will seem like reality TV, is all scripted and staged. If you take a moment to think about the absurdity of reality TV dating shows, you realize Lifetime is on to something here. If they don’t hold back and make sure nothing is safe or sacred, this could be one to watch in the near future. With someone like Marti Noxon involved, we have a lot of faith that this show could be a riot.
As far as when we can watch it, more details on Un-Real over at TV Line.
