Back in 2006, the Sci-Fi Channel aired an excellent miniseries that was largely overlooked. I personally hadn't heard about it until recently. As a die-hard LOST fan, reading the synopsis for The Lost Room and seeing the words "The Event" was enough to really pique my interest. There was no doubt at that point that I had to check it out, and I'm glad I did.
Peter Krause stars as Detective Joe Miller, who learns about the existence of the Room and comes into possession of the Key. The Room was just a typical room in a typical motel along Route 66 - until "the Event" occurred, anyway. The Objects appear to be your average, everyday items that you might find in a typical room in a typical motel. However, they all have a unique power and are indestructible outside the Room.
Detective Miller has the Key to the Room. The Key, when used to open any door, takes the holder to anywhere they have in their mind as they pass through the door. The Key holder can bring others with them, but if they (or anything that is not an Object) are left in the room when the Key holder leaves, they disappear. This is how Detective Miller loses his daughter, Anna. He then sets out to find her, and in the process learn more about the Room, the Objects, the Incident and the Cabals - groups of Object-seekers and collectors, all with varying motives.
Along his journey, Detective Miller meets many interesting people who also have Objects, including the Comb that stops time when you run it through your hair and the Bus Ticket that transports you to Gallup, New Mexico (near the Motel) when it touches your skin. Who can he trust? Who really wants to help him find his daughter? These are the questions he's faced with as he fights to find and save his missing daughter. To make things even harder on the frantic father, he is framed for murdering his partner.
The cast includes Julianna Margulies, Peter Jacobson and Kevin Pollak, who are all excellent. The series is just six episodes long (though it originally aired as a trio of two-hour installments) and they get better as they go along. After two episodes, I was excited but sad that I was already one third of the way through what was shaping up to be a very good series. After four episodes, I couldn't stop watching and had to watch the final third of the series, which contains the two best episodes.
If you're a fan of science fiction in general - especially shows like LOST, Fringe and/or The X-Files - this show is for you. You can get it on Netflix (2 discs) or you can purchase it on Amazon for just $8.49.
Funny thing you should mention the Lost Room. http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article…..
