LOST fans got a week off last week – and they didn't like it. Sure, a few of us put up the front of actually 'needing' the break to prevent our brains from boiling over, but anybody who tells you they actually enjoyed skipping a week is either not a fan, or is a masochist. Thankfully, LOST returns this week with the episode "Namaste," and we have some inside details on the episode. Read on for a spoilerific preview.
"Namaste" picks up hot on the heels of "LaFleur," with Sawyer's bitter sweet reunion wih Freckles, Jackass, and Stay-puff. The conman come lawman now has to figure out how to bring his former island compadres into Dharmaville without blowing his cover story. If you're looking for the thematic center of the episode, it just passed you.
Sawyer's conundrum is this: he likes the life he has built for himself. Where the Oceanic 6 had a pretty bad run of things post island, the past three years have been kind to Sawyer – kind enough that he isn't so anxious to let go of his island life. Of course, what the time-skipping averse Sawyer is not considering is that there is a fate awaiting the Dharma initiative that only the grim reaper would want. Or is there?
The question of whether the chrono-displaced are actually changing time or not is touched upon briefly in the episode via an appearance from exposition device Christian Shepherd. Look for Christian to show a very interesting picture to Sun when she arrives at the Dharma compound – and no, she is not back in time with hubby Jin. Far from it.
The seeds of conflict between the well adjusted Sawyer and the returning Oceanic 3 are sown in "Namaste," the intriguing question is what sort of plot-crop will grow from that conflict? Time will tell.
