More seen of LOST statue

There’s a supernatural deity on the mysterious Island of LOST, and it’s not Richard Alpert (as far as we know, that is). I’m talking about Taweret, the ancient Egyptian goddess of fertility who is depicted by a giant statue on the Island’s coast.

We first saw this statue in the season two finale, “Live Together, Die Alone,” though only the left foot of the statue remained, and even it had only four toes. Though the statue gained considerable buzz among the fans, we didn’t see more of the statue until almost four years later, when we saw it from behind in the episode “LaFleur,” and we finally saw a closer view from behind in the season five finale, “The Incident, Parts 1 & 2,” when we discovered that the base of the statue was occupied by the ageless entity known as Jacob. However, despite this, we’ve never actually seen what the statue looks like from the front. We’ve seen from odd angles from the back, but we don’t even know what the statue’s face looks like.

That is, until now. The Lostpedia Blog (well, me writing for the Lostpedia blog) reports that the latest issue of Lost: The Official Magazine has a better picture of the statue’s original model,  as sculpted by Jim Van Houten. The model was used as a reference when creating the CGI version of the statue as shown in “The Incident, Parts 1 & 2.” The image shown is a scan, and of poor quality, but a much higher quality version can be found on page 25 of the 100-page yearbook released this week by Lost: The Official Magazine.

What do you think about this recently revealed image? Is it all you hoped it would be? Is it an accurate depiction of Taweret? You decide, and comment in the comments section below. We look forward to hearing your feedback.
