As reported a few days ago, things aren't looking good for CBS's crime procedural Numb3rs. The number of episodes for the sixth season was cut down from twenty-two to sixteen, a sure sign that things aren't looking good for any show, despite Numb3rs' relatively good ratings and viewership. Co-creator Cheryl Heuton addressed these fears, telling audiences that the writers of the show are indeed planning for the sixteenth episode of the sixth season to serve as a series finale.

“We will be doing a 16th episode that wraps up storylines and answers questions,” Heuton told Entertainment Weekly. “It will be designed to stand as a finale, but it won’t create story situations that would hamper us if the network should decide to order more episodes.” The episode “will give fans what they’ve been waiting for… We’re looking to feature all our characters and give good moments to every member of the cast.”

So it's looking like Numb3rs will indeed get the axe, despite being one of CBS' best-rated shows. However, the series will continue to be run in syndication if it is cancelled, and will likely be just as lucrative for the network.
