Nobody really knows what Paula Abdul's going to do next, if anything at all. After her recent split with hit reality show American Idol, the former judge has been shopping around for new TV gigs, looking at So You Think You Can Dance, and more recently, Ugly Betty.

But there's no Betty in Paula's future. The L.A. Times has reported that negotiations with Abdul had fallen through, and that she will not be appearing in a guest role as previously reported. Abdul's episode, which was slated to begin shooting next  week, featured the former pop star as a temp at Mode magazine, where the main character of the series works. It's likely you'll be seeing the temp on the show in the future, but they won't be played by Paula. Why?

Well, it looks like Paula still thinks there's a chance she'll return to Idol, according to TMZ. "...she wants to be able to jump on a plane on a moment's notice to rejoin her fellow judges on Idol," they reported.

That sounds about right. It seems that the ink on the whole deal isn't quite dry, and I don't really blame Paula for waiting for a chance to be brought back to the most-watched show in America, especially since she helped shape it into what it is today.
