All good things must come to an end. That's something that applies to all aspects of life, and especially to that of television. The series Rescue Me started in 2004 as a tribute, of sorts, to the men and women of the New York Fire Department who'd responded to the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center. 2011 will mark not only the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, but also the end of Rescue Me.
"Within the next couple of weeks, we're going to begin shooting the last 19 episodes, which will be the final two seasons of the show," the shows co-creator Peter Tolan told TVGuide.com.
The final 19 episodes will be produced together, but aired as two separate seasons, with ten episodes next year, and nine episodes in 2011 to close out the series on the 9/11 anniversary.
On a personal note, I will definitely miss this show, but I think it's probably a good time, and a good way to end it. It allows Rescue Me to close a fantastic series out on the same level that it entered television on. The trauma that the firefighters face everyday in the post-9/11 world. And while that trauma certainly won't end for the brave men and women of the NYFD, the quality and the integrity of this series will honor the reality of what they do, and what they face, far more than stretching this series out further.
