Saving Grace, the TNT series about an Oklahoma City cop who is trying to find balance between her job and her personal life, all while dealing with an unconventional 'last chance' angel named Earl, will come to an end next summer. The series started in 2007 and has received two consecutive Emmy nominations to Holly Hunter for her no-holds-barred performance of Detective Grace Hanadarko. Hunter also serves as executive producer on the show, alongside creator Nancy Miller, Gary A. Randall, and Artie Mandeberg.
“Since SAVING GRACE began in 2007, the series has both challenged and entertained viewers in ways few other shows on television ever dare,” said Michael Wright, executive vice president, head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM). “The show’s continued success is thanks to the amazing talents of Holly Hunter and Nancy Miller, along with a tremendous ensemble cast and a highly skilled production team. They have taken us on a unique journey, and we look forward to seeing where it will ultimately lead.”
Saving Grace has been a ratings success for TNT, pulling in an average of more than 3.5 million veiewers this past summerand ranks first in its time period for the adults and the women 25-54 demographics. In this summer’s episodes, Earl has worked to create a connection between Grace and a young addict named Neely (Yaani King – The Prince & Me), whose life may eventually be in Grace’s hands. While trying to figure out Earl’s plans, Grace has also provided firm support for her best friend, criminalist Rhetta Rodriguez (Laura San Giacomo – Just Shoot Me), who is emotionally despondent over losing her family home and catching her husband in an affair.
On a personal note, this show will be greatly missed. Not only did I enjoy seeing a well put together show that took place in my home-state, but seeing such an imperfect but 'good at heart' character that came to life on the small screen has been such a treat. Grace was always a good person at heart, but her personal decisions turned her life into a nightmare, and made her a character that you could related to, and sympathize with as she struggled to get a hold of her life.
Then there's Earl, her angel there to provide her one last chance at redemption, but who claims that his interference in her life is all part of some master plan that even he doesn't know or fully understand. Leon Rippy is a fantastic actor and has fit this role better than anyone ever could have. While I still think his role on Deadwood showed his true acting talents, Saving Grace has provided a fantastic role for him and one that will not be forgotten.
Every actor and character on this show was fantastic and all will be missed. The current summer run of Saving Grace concludes on Tuesday, Aug 18 with the season finale. Grace will then return next summer (2010) for 9 episodes before the series comes to a final close. Whether or not Grace finds the redemption she's searching for will remain a mystery until then.

Damn, I'm very sad/mad about this! Grace was one of our favorite shows, and the TNT rating prove that people like it & came back week after week. Fox does it again…argh.

Why take away a show that people are watching to put on something that will replace one of the most wonderful show on TNT……………I would love to see Grace come back with Earl as and Angel and be Hams angel………………..what a twist would that be………..love this show and I am really sad……….Holly Hunter is a wonderful actress as well as a wonderful play on police department role ………I really wish that we could have at least 2 more season……….
