HA! Still no Heroes. Maybe it won’t make the list at all.
I have to be honest, I was never a fan of the rebooted 90210 (but I was of the original). And while I certainly watched episodes of the original Melrose Place, I was more into the original 90210. But because I enjoy primetime soaps (see: Gossip Girl), I decided to give Melrose Place a try, despite the fact that I wasn’t crazy about its lead-in show (yes, even with the revamped season 2).
The problem with Melrose is that there’s not enough craziness. We need MORE insanity. We need more Ella. More people like Ella. Crazy, crazy b*tches who screw stuff up on a daily basis. The Jonah-Riley storyline, while cute, is boring. I get that they’re supposed to be the wholesome couple, but trying to decide whether they’re really going to get married and seeing Jonah try to make it in Hollywood just isn’t cutting it for me. It’s not interesting. The Lauren prostitute storyline WAS interesting...until they stopped focusing on it. Now apparently she’s still a prostitute but they don’t really show it and she’s somehow managing to coordinate tricks and johns, her busy hospital schedule and a potential relationship with David. Seriously? Who has that much time?
By far the most interesting character is Ella. Not because her storyline is particularly interesting (struggling to make it at a LA PR firm), but because she’s a nasty character who relishes in her craziness. Like Heather Locklear’s character, Amanda.
Speaking of Amanda...Heather returned to her role this past week. Heather is wonderful. She’s a vicious, conniving tiger and I love it. But she’s only one person. She cannot save the entire show. Even if she starts messing in everyone’s lives (and let’s hope she does), we still need more soapiness to come from the other supporting characters.
And the less said about Ashlee Simpson Wentz, the better. I really have no opinion on her abilities as a singer (because, honestly, I think I’ve only listened to one of her songs at one point in my life), but I’m afraid she’s not cut out for acting. She’s stiff and has little range. Getting rid of her character was a good idea.
So the bottom line is this – Heather Locklear is a welcome addition to this show, but we can’t expect her to be a saving grace. The other characters need to pull their weight as well. I need more conflict. More affairs. More crazy sh*t. THAT’S Melrose Place.

Great article, Clarissa! I have found FlashForward to be kind of slow the past 2 weeks but I am keeping my fingers crossed that it will improve after the holidays, because I think there is a lot of potential there. Except Mark- I haven’t liked his character from day 1 and I think that the actor plays him very woodenly.
I know 2 shows that I *don’t* want overhauled in any way, and they are Glee and Vamp Diaries. Since I love these shows so much, that means they are doomed ;)

I felt the same way about FlashForward until I saw this weeks episode ( 10th, Australia ), it was amazing – first time I’m looking forward to the next episode!

Heroes is beyond saving. I don’t think there’s anything anyone can do that will get people to tune in again and I don’t see this kind of series running on a bit over 5 million. I don’t know why I still watch. After every episode I decide to stop watching but I always come back… just to be disappointed. So much material in Heroes is completely pointless. It’s like you said: so many scenes have just nothing in them. There’s no action and nothing new to learn about those characters. Why am I watching Noah refall in love with that lady they just forced into his past? Is this going to be important to the overall story? If they want to do a romance thing they have to do it in context of the show. Right now I feel like I’m watching several shows at once. It’s the carnival/Hiro story (OK), the Petrelli/Sylar story (good) and some romantic/teen angst crap with the Bennett family (Why?!).
I can’t break up with Heroes. It gave me so many beautiful moments. Sounds like I’m playing relationship chicken.
