All good things must come to an end, but some ends last longer than others.

Even though Battlestar Galactica ended in March of this year, the series is continuing to live on, this time in the medium of film. And the Battlestar movie looks well on the fast track to becoming a reality.

Universal Studios, who have owned rights to a Battlestar film since the original 1974 series aired, have decided to place Bryan Singer in the director's chair for the film. Singer, best known for directing blockbuster films like X-Men, X2, Superman Returns, and Valkyrie, was originally slotted to bring Battlestar back to television in 2002.

Don't expect the Battlestar Galactica movie to have much similarity to the original source material. The film is planned to be a complete reimagining of the source concept, with no cast members in common with the SyFy television show.

The Battlestar franchise is only expanding. In addition to the planned film, a prequel series, Caprica, is slotted to premiere on January 22, 2010.

This article is a bit inaccurate. Battlestar Galactica aired in the 1978-1979 season for one. Second, Glen Larson sued for and won the rights to a Battlestar Galactica feature film in 2003 after the Sci Fi channel managed to sneak their way in and submarine the continuation efforts.

Even bad things come to an end. On to new beginnings! A lot of us are quite happy that this film is finally getting made!!!

  3. if it isn't associated with the SciFi channel version, why bother? The original series sucked.

    Proof: Boxee

God, if this is going to be anything like the original 80s series it'll suck so hard it'll be almost impossible to watch. IMO the new series is simply just awesome … season 4 had a few episodes I could have done without, but by and large this is still the best thing I've seen on tv in ages … by a long frakkin' shot.
