I'm not really a big fan of Dane Cook, but I have to hand it to him for boldness. During the Teen Choice Awards that took place on Sunday night, he made a jab at audience member Vanessa Hudgens. Doesn't sound familiar? That's because FOX edited it out before it hit the airwaves.
The joke was fairly tame, but Hudgens' expression was anything but. While on stage, Cook suddenly announced that he felt he should address the elephant in the room, and called out Hudgens, referencing the recently released second batch of nude pictures of the teen star on the internet. "Girl, you got to keep your clothes!" Cook cracked. "Phones are for phone calls, girl."
The camera then zoomed in on Hudgens' not-too-pleased expression. There was an uncomfortable moment of silence, and then Cook moved on to announcing the award.
"I planned it about 20 minutes before I went out there," Cook later told MTV, "because I like to be on the cusp of fear." The joke was, for all intents and purposes, a flop, however, and he latertold Access Hollywood that he would "take the hit" for it.
Personally, I feel that the joke was inappropriate for the setting. Of course, some of the best comedy comes from taboo subjects, but I felt like Cook just made the joke at the wrong place, wrong time: surrounded by hundreds of teen fans who love Vanessa Hudgens. The joke would probably have come off better in a comedy club, even if it wasn't that funny.
Do I think that FOX was right in cutting the joke from the broadcast? Well, I can certainly see why they did it. But even so, it wasn't nearly as controversial and provocative as Miley Cyrus's pole dance, which made it into the broadcast. Do you smell a double standard?

Yeah, there's a double-standard all right, its called don't make fun of celebrities getting naked, but its okay to dance on poles like naked people.
Although I agree with you that it needed to be cut, and it was the wrong place to say it (hello! TEEN choice awards, Dane), part of me is so glad he said it because obviously someone needs to. I mean, the first time Hudgen's nude pics made it onto the web I thought, "poor girl. She's young, she did something stupid, but at least she learned from it." Now I'm like, "you stupid stupid b*tch!" Okay, maybe that was harsh, but COME ON!! If you get busted taking nude photos of yourself and the WHOLE WORLD gets to see them, why in hades would you do it AGAIN, and then be shocked when you got busted AGAIN.
Okay, off of my soap box.
