Well, the rumors were true, Terry Crews has his next big gig, and it’s hosting the revived Who Wants to be a Millionaire? You’ll be forgiven if you didn’t know the show was back on, as I certainly didn’t, but for the past year it was hosted by Cedric the Entertainer who was very vocal about not wanting to return.
Crews was courted, and apparently came to an arrangement that worked for both side. The obvious question now is how will this affect his other responsibilities, namely Brooklyn Nine-Nine and a burgeoning film career? Well, game shows like Millionaire can film a lot of episodes over the course of a few days, so it shouldn’t cut into Crews schedule all that much.
Still, I said it before and I’ll say it again, it’s a rather strange career move for Crews, who seems like he’s on his way to becoming a fully-fledged comedy/action superstar in the vein of Arnold himself. Hosting a reboot of Who Wants to be a Millionaire seems perfect for Cedric the Entertainer, given his profile, but Terry Crews? I hope they’re paying him a lot, that’s all I have to say. The network is certainly excited to have him:
““Terry is engaging, endearing, smart, and quick on his feet — the perfect combination to lead one of the longest-running franchises in game show history,” said Janice Marinelli, president, Disney-ABC Domestic TV.
I don’t know about “perfect combination,” but they’re certainly lucky to have him on board. But if push comes to shove, I have to imagine hosting gets put on hold for bigger projects.
