You know what old adage ‘family and business don’t mix’? That’s the cornerstone of the new ABC comedy, The Family Tools. Tony (J.K. Simmons), the patriarch of the Shea family, has a heart attack, forcing him to step down as the head of his beloved handyman business. Enter his son, Jack (Kyle Bornheimer), who is happy to step up and take over the reigns of the business in order to make his father proud. But Jack’s work history has been spotty at best, so no one is expecting him to succeed.
His attempts at taking over the business are complicated by Tony’s troublemaker assistant, Darren (Edi Gathegi), and Darren’s flirtatious sister, Liz (Danielle Nicolet), who works at the local hardware store. But he’s got two family members who want to help him succeed: his Aunt Terry (Leah Remini) and his oddball yet endearing cousin Mason (Johnny Pemberton).
