Fans of the Audrey Niffenegger novel, and now hit movie The Time Traveler's Wife may be surprised to learn that ABC has given Warner Bros. TV a pilot commitment for a small screen version of the story. The new series would also be written and executive produced by Friend's creator Marta Kauffman. While it may seem like a quick attempt by ABC to get the hit movie onto their network, ABC's interest in this project goes back "for years" as does their interest in having Kauffman lead the series, industry insiders said.
According to TheWrap.com, which broke the story, each episode will most likely feature self-contained storylines, and Kauffman will explore the core of the story, the romantic relationship between the character's Henry and Clare, over the course of several seasons.
As a side-note to any sci-fi buffs reading this article, if you have any hopes that this new series will end up being a continuation of sorts for Journeyman, you'll be sorely mistaken. The Time Traveler's Wife is a love story at it's core that explores issues of romance, loss, and free will, and is a metaphor to the type of distant relationships that many women find themselves in today. Translation...no cool mythological background or secret government conspiracies will be involved, and we sure as hell won't get to see Moon Bloodgood in it. Regardless, Kauffman has brought some incredible shows to us in the past that didn't already have an existing fan base like The Time Traveler's Wife. This could be interesting.
