‘The Walking Dead’ Confirmed for Second Season

Let’s all breathe a collective sigh of relief — we’re not just getting six episodes of AMC’s The Walking Dead. The series, set to premiere in October, only has a six-episode order. That’s short, though I’m sure it will be worthwhile. But now, we know that we’ve got more than just that initial order. Thanks to an AMC Sweepstakes post, we’ve found out that there are currently plans for a second season of the show.

The sweepstakes are for a walk-on role on the series. Here’s what the blurb says:

Ever dreamed of being a zombie? Now’s your chance, with AMC’s The Walking Dead Sweepstakes. Submit the online form and you’ll be entered in a random drawing to win a four-day, three-night trip to the location of The Walking Dead’s Season 2 production, plus the opportunity to become one of the undead in a Season 2 episode of The Walking Dead. (Exact specifics of the walk-on role will be determined at the producer’s sole discretion.) The sweepstakes will run from Tuesday, July 20, through Sunday, August 15. Entrants may enter the sweepstakes one time only throughout the entire sweepstakes period.

See there? Looks like a season two is in the cards after all! What little doubt I had about the six-episode season has been completely erased by the promise of a second season, something I’m sure that AMC will deliver on. After all, you don’t start a sweepstakes unless you’ve got a second season locked in as a certainty, right? Speaking of which, those sweepstakes do seem pretty cool — but I don’t know how comfortable I would be in a crowd of people dressed up to look dead (though apparently a group did so at Comic-Con).

The Walking Dead will premiere in October.

Still wondering what the show is all about? Order Volume 1 of the series, “Days Gone Bye,” for only $9.99.
