Every TV season we experience that 1 new show that is so amazing, that we are instantly hooked. To coin a popular New Zealand comedic duo, “conditions are perfect.” With amazing cast, superior writing, excellent production it seems that nothing will stop this program from rising to greatness. But for some reason we can’t fathom, these shows just fall short. I know you’ve experienced the bitterness of unjust cancellation. We all have. Below is a list of 5 TV shows that are no more and (I think) television is worse because of it:
5. Roar (1997) - This was a bold attempt by the Fox network in a time where fantasy TV only ruled in the realms of graveyard syndication (ironically, that hasn’t really changed.) Created by Shaun Cassidy, it follows the story of Conor, (Heath Ledger) a displaced prince who must unite the clans of Ireland to drive out the Roman Empire in 400 A.D. The show took on some mystical elements as we learned that the main villain, Longinus (Sebastian Roche) was a 400 year old Roman Centurion who was cursed by God after piercing the side of Jesus at the Crucifixion. Mixing elements of Christian and Celtic mythologies with Druidism and a bit of history, Roar was a very well put together show. Unfortunately, its run in the summer of 1997 ended after airing only 8 of the 13 episodes. The complete series was released on DVD in 2006.

How could you leave out shows like…ELI STONE? (Never know what happened to him and Maggie)KYLE XY? (The ending was pathetic and we were left without answers)SAMANTHA WHO? (The comedy show was very funny, the writers did what they could to give thislovely lady Samantha a proper ending).Three promising shows also canceled and what a coincidence they aired (in its short time) in *cough* the alphabet network ABC*cough.
Carnivale? Arrested Development?
I think Jericho, Cane, and Kings should have not been cancelled either. Black Donnelys by far should have been picked up by either FX or HBO……..
Some good stuff on here – although I'll miss Dead Like Me more than I ever will Pushing Daisies. I think my ultimate cancelled before its time is Kings though. I absolutely adored it and there was some amazing writing on that show. I'm still mourning its loss a year later and I'm sure I'll still be doing it in five or ten. Thank goodness for DVDs!
This list is completely right!I don't know about some of the other shows since I never watched them, but Pushing Daisies and Firefly were the greatest shows on TV before they were cancelled. At least Firefly got a movie and comic books, and if I'm not mistaken, there is a short stories book coming out soon :D And Pushing Daisies was supposed to get a comic but I don't know what happened. But Firefly deserves that #1 spot on this list, thank you for realizing it. I salute you, sir.
Has it been a year? I LOVED Kings. It's ridiculous how amazing that show was and could have been. I wish they'd make a movie out of it–there was plenty of material there to work with, and the acting was astounding.
Eli Stone broke my heart. That was such a bright spot in the networks' line-up of murder and mayhem shows. And I started watching Kyle XY on Hulu before I realized it'd been cancelled. What a huge letdown that ending was. The writing was kind of insane, but that was a fun guilty pleasure show and it would have been nice to get a bit of closure on that one. Eli Stone at least had the semblance of an ending.
I never knew about that Heath Ledger show! Wow. That would have been an awesome series. Firefly is definitely the biggest crime out there, though. That had so many perfect elements–the concept, the sets, the awesome cast, kick-ass women, and great writing. Considering the drivel that goes on and on for years on TV, it's horrifying that something like Firefly gets axed after a year. At least we got the film, but I've got my issues with that, especially since it's not likely there'll be another one.
Eliza Dushku's wedding <a href="http://;http://bit.ly/cbcqkp+;http://bit.ly/cbcqkp+
Too bad about Dollhouse, but you can sign petintion.
I miss Arrested Development.
I understand people love Firefly, but what is it about Firefly that STILL makes people upset over its cancellation after all these years? Granted I have never seen an episode but I am open to it.
