As reported at Deadline Hollywood, there is reason to believe that Amy Poehler and Tina Fey have been approached about hosting this year’s Golden Globes. And as much as we don’t like to report on speculative news in case it doesn’t pan out, all anyone wants to talk about right now is still Sunday night’s VMAS, but we would simply like to use that as a reminder to all of you that there are classy award shows, like The Golden Globes still, and they are often hosted by classy people, which is why Amy Poehler and Tina Fey are pretty much perfect choices, and why it would be the perfect time to bring them back, and give America faith that what saw Sunday night is not the norm.
First off, let’s do a side by side. The awful MTV VMAs brought in ten million people, which easily won their time slot. But earlier this year, when Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosted the Golden Globes, they brought in twice that. Yes, twenty million. So if you are scared America has lost all its class and that Sunday night’s VMAs were representative of the declining state in our world, that is just not the case. The Golden Globes represent the world of pop culture and mass media far more than MTV does the one night a year they pretend to still represent music.
So with numbers that high, a reputation that well received, and a nation in need of saving from the evils of pop music and nasty pop stars who just had much impact on us all, I say yes please! We need some Tina Fey and Amy Poehler wit to remind us that we are not above saving, and they just might be the two people who can do it, one laugh at a time.
