Big news out of the Mythbusters camp today as the show has lost its three major supporting players, Kari Byron, Tory Belleci and Grant Imahara. Outside of hosts Jamie and Adam, the three have been staples of the science program for nearly a decade now, and their departure has confused many. But it seems there are no hard feelings:
“I guess you guys are finding out the news right about now. After a decade of the MythBusters, we are no longer with the show,” Kari said on Twitter. “Thank you to all the fans who have supported us. The show is taking a new direction. It was an amazing run. I learned so much about myself and the world. I love you all @MythBusters. I am sad for an ending but there will be exciting new adventures for us.”
So, what on earth happened? There are a few theories, one that the three simply wanted to pursue other projects and Mythbusters wasn’t paying them enough to stay after ten years. The other theory, one that seems more likely after reading Kari’s tweets, is that the show needed to slim down expenses to compete with uber-cheap reality programming, and they probably really only need the main two hosts, Adam and Jamie, and could save money by cutting the other three. From the sound of it, they would have stayed if they could.
But ten years is a good run, and obviously they will be successful in whatever else they do. Here’s to wishing them the best of luck in whatever happens to come next.
