s-TV-GUIDE-largeToday, TV Guide Online announced a DVR service that will allow you to collect all your favorite shows in one spot. Instead of buying a show off iTunes here and watching another show on Hulu.com for free, you can watch almost just about anything in the same setting and even catch up on old shows that have either ended a long time ago or last season. Current shows include Gossip Girl, Dollhouse, Grey's Anatomy, and nip/tuck to name a few. Old shows available are Babylon 5, Star Trek: The Original Series, Buck Rogers, Knight Rider (both incarnations), CHiPs, Charlie's Angels and many more.

Is there a catch? Of course there is...

Some (most) of the shows are available only for purchase from Amazon's Unbox Video on Demand Service. Only the current shows that recently aired have a free playback, while episodes from a few weeks back have to be purchased. When I clicked on Babylon 5 to catch up on a show that friends still won't talk to me about because I have never seen it straight through, I was met with a fee of $1.99 if I wanted to view the content. Hmm...

So I leave with this one question...

Why bother?

  1. I love the one question, and there’s only one answer to that:
    They want more money.

TV Guide is so far behind the times here when it comes to DVR stuff. Is this even a “DVR”? Can you “record” ? no, so it’s a hulu. DVR, literally means “Digital Video Recorder”, so, where’s the “record” feature?

No thanks, I’ll pass and stick to my trusty Tivo(s)

Wow did I love NIP TUCK! I missed it during the original broadcast, but based on what people have told me, I gambled on this box set at http://www.buybestdvds.com. I feel like I hit the jackpot.

It's definitely not for everyone though. No sirree.
