I don't know if anyone has ever heard of a little movie called Twilight and it's sequel, New Moon, which just made over $140 million in its opening weekend and thus making it the third highest opening of all time (forget 2012, I think this is the surest sign of the apocalypse that I've ever seen).
Anyways, I'm not going to tell you what I thought about the movie (yes, I saw it), because this is a TV site and not a movie review site. And because I don't want the Twi-hards to come after me.
In TV-related news, FX has nabbed the rights to broadcast the entire Twilight saga (as well as other Summit films, including The Hurt Locker, Knowing and Push). Here's the preliminary airing schedule:
Twilight - Late 2011
New Moon - Late 2012
Eclipse - Early 2013
Breaking Dawn - TBA
Showtime currently has the pay cable rights for Twilight, so FX is the only network that is currently signed up to air the saga on regular, ad-supported network TV. FX is sure to pay a pretty penny for the broadcast rights. Apparently " [The] deal between FX and Summit is standard in that pricetag will be 10%-12% of the domestic box office take, but with a cap." So as long as the domestic gross keeps going up, so does the saga's price tag, no matter how many 'caps' are involved. My only question is: will the audience (who will likely already have all of the DVDs by that time) really tune in enough to warrant the heavy price tag?
Meanwhile, The Hurt Locker, Knowing and Push will air in mid-2012.
