A solid foundation of interesting stories and attractive and talented actors gave The CW a hit with The Vampire Diaries. The set of four books was originally published in 1991, long before Twilight was published or Buffy was on television.
Now, Vulture reports that another series of novels by L. J. Smith (who wrote The Vampire Diaries novels) is going to be adapted by The CW. "The Secret Circle" is a series of books about witches. A 16 year old girl named Cassie moves, with her mother, to New Salem, Massachusetts. Her new highschool is ruled by a group of girls known as 'The Club'. The girls in The Club are witches, descended from the original Salem witches, and Cassie is a witch herself.
Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain, are writers and producers who were also involved with creating The Vampire Diaries show (and were involved with Buffy, Angel and Dollhouse). They're now spearheading the adaptation, while screenwriter Andrew Miller is writing the pilot episode.
Will The CW has another winning hit with The Secret Circle adaptation? Will it be dark and mysterious like The Vampire Diaries or will it turn out to be Gossip Girl with witches? I guess we'll have to wait until next season to find out.

I loved that series of books, I think it would make a great show. I can't really see it as a Gossip Girl type of show- the series was quite dark.
The Secret Circle = Gossip Girl with witches? Haha definitely not!
