With the new Nikita poster, sex sells

The CW had a very good season last year, with the runaway hit The Vampire Diaries (which was inevitably both a product and the recipient of the vampire craze). Now, they’re trying to replicate that genre success with their new series Nikita, an action series starring Maggie Q as the titular assassin. It’s a remake of the older series La Femme Nikita, and according to this poster released by the CW, Nikita is all femme.

The poster, for those you unlucky enough to be able to view it, is all sexed up. Maggie Q is splayed across a chair in a scarlet room, wearing a leather outfit that shows ALL of her leg and then some. The chair she’s sitting in has legs of machine guns, one of which she is holding while her other hand holds a pistol in the air. Obviously, the CW is not going for its normal demographic with this series. The network, for the most part, aims at younger women with their shows like Gossip Girl and the recently cancelled Melrose Place. While shows like Supernatural and Smallville are aimed at a mixed audience, Nikita seems to be going for all men with this “Looks Do Kill” campaign. And you know what? If it keeps up, it just might be successful.

Nikita premieres on September 9 at 9/c on the CW. It’s going to have to fight hard to stay alive in that horrible battleground of a Thursday night slot, but if this poster has anything to say, the CW is willing to fight to win.
