Two and a Half Men Season 9 Premiere "Nice to Meet You, Walden Schmidt" Review

All was revealed. The most anticipated episode of Two and a Half Men verified a few things: Rose is possibly crazier than we ever thought, Walden Schmidt is nothing like Charlie Harper, and Two and a Half Men will continue to be a hilariously offside show.

The episode opens with Charlie's funeral, where the only person attempting to be sensitive is Alan. Besides the family and Berta, the room consists of a slew of Charlie's ex-girlfriends and a drug dealer. When Alan proclaims in his eulogy that Charlie lived life to the fullest and gave it everything he had, the ex-girlfriends riddle off a list of what Charlie gave them—a series of STDs. The drug dealer just wanted the $38,000 that Charlie owed him.

Then Rose takes the podium. The recent rumors of Charlie's cause of death were correct. Let's briefly rewind to the end of season 8. Rose pretended to be married so that Charlie would become jealous and fall in love with her. It worked, but Alan knew that her "husband" was a mannequin. Unfortunately for Charlie, he never discovered the truth and took Rose to Paris. Fast forward back to the funeral, where Rose says that Charlie proposed in Paris and they had a few amazing days until she caught him in the shower with another woman. She claims she forgave him, but that the next day he "slipped on the metro platform and fell in front of an oncoming train." So we now know that Rose is so crazy that she will go as far as murder. Berta knows she did it, but will anyone accuse her throughout the season? I question what her role on the show is in the absence of Charlie. At this point, I think the most likely scenario is she will start to believe she really is married to the mannequin. There is also the potential for the character to be imprisoned or institutionalized at any time.

A few other points from the funeral scene:

  • The bowling shirt was a nice touch.
  • Jake's first lines remain typical of Jake: "I'm hungry. Anyone else hungry?"
  • Alan said that Charlie "lived life on his own terms and never apologized for who he was." This felt like it was intended for both the character and the actor, but we now know the actor has apologized.

After the funeral, the family gathers back at the beach house, which we learn Charlie left to Alan. It's explained that the house has multiple mortgages that Alan can't afford to pay, and Evelyn refuses to sell the house without a commission. In short, they have to sell the house, Alan is not going to profit from it, and he will have to move in with his mom. Life continues to suck for Alan. So, let's try to sell this house...

John Stamos wants to buy it! Once a rumored replacement for Charlie Sheen, John Stamos plays a character who wants to purchase the house until he realizes that it's Charlie Harper's house. The same Charlie Harper he had a threesome with on the couch in that very house. The unfortunate part of this story was that the woman fell asleep but the activity did not. Because of that, he can't buy it.

Dharma and Greg want to buy it! What? Dharma and Greg? It wasn't quite Dharma and Greg. It was Jenna Elfman and Thomas Gibson as a slightly more neurotic version of Dharma and Greg. I don't think Dharma would have ever threatened divorce, and I don't think Greg would have ever pretended to shoot himself in the head in response.

The potential buyers have left when Charlie's ashes are delivered to the house. I was glad to see a few moments of seriousness when Alan had the opportunity to talk to the remains of his brother and tell him that he loves him, misses him, and is grateful for everything that Charlie did for him. He then debates what to do with the ashes, and I sensed this was going to go downhill. Pamela Anderson probably won't swallow them like Charlie wanted. It's too creepy to live with the ashes at their mother's house. Alan decides he will spread them on the beach. For whatever reason, Alan opens the urn and we know the ashes aren't making it to the beach. Alan stands up, sees a creepy guy standing outside the patio door and flings the ashes all over the floor.

But wait, it's not a creepy guy. It's Ashton Kutcher, who eventually introduces his character as Walden Schmidt. He needs to use the phone. Charlie's ashes are on the floor, and in comes Walden Schmidt to walk all over them. That might have been a bit much. Charlie eventually gets referred to as "the dude in the dust buster" after the mess has been cleaned up. I'm sure that whole scenario was designed so that people like myself would write something like "after the mess has been cleaned up." Since this type of humor is typical of Two and a Half Men, we can only hope that Charlie Sheen found it to be a proper sendoff for Charlie Harper.

It's time to get on with this new season, so let's get back to Walden Schmidt...

My first impression of Walden was that he's a male Rose. That scared me a little, because I didn't want him to be that creepy. Walden uses the phone to call his wife, who has dumped him. He tells her he was about to commit suicide and begs her to take him back. She doesn't. He explains that he failed to commit suicide because the water was too cold. Really? He also can't say "Alan" properly, which is stupid but kind of funny. Alan talks him down from his suicidal thoughts and gets Walden to go out for a drink with him. But first, they have to dry his clothes. Here commences the first instance of Ashton Kutcher stripping down on his new show.

At the bar, we learn what makes Walden different from Charlie: he doesn't like the taste of alcohol, he knows nothing about women, and he sold a startup to Microsoft for $1.3 billion. We also learn the one similarity he has with Charlie: women love him despite his flaws. He cries about how he can never love anyone like he loves his wife, and this somehow lands him two women. Life continues to suck for Alan. The next morning, Walden is naked again and greets Berta in the kitchen. She of course approves. To set us up for the rest of the season, Walden tells Alan he will buy the house and gives him a hug (still naked). Judith and Jake show up during this nude embrace. Judith, like Berta, approves. Jake's role in this episode was almost entirely restricted to flatulence. I hope his character gets better than this.

I'm hesitant to say I like the character of Walden Schmidt, but he did make me laugh. The naivety is a bit over the top. He's childish. At the same time, we know he has enough intelligence to get him to billionaire status. I'm interested to see if and how the writers will introduce Walden and Rose. Their personalities are similar, but together they may clash. I don't think they will be a love interest. I hope not. Please no.

Ashton Kutcher was a great choice for Walden. There are a lot of unbelievable lines that he had to pull off, and he did so in a hilarious way. I hope more of the billionaire genius in the character comes out and he doesn't remain obsessive about his wife for the rest of the season. I love that this character gets women without trying, because Charlie tried. Charlie had schemes. Walden won't have to do anything to get women, but he will get them and it will annoy Alan just as much. But Walden doesn't seem like the type of character you could ever dislike. He seems sweet, just a bit creepy in a Rose kind of way.

There are many people out there who felt that the show should not continue without Charlie Sheen. I was never one of those people, but I hope that this episode will change some opinions. Even if this ends up being the last season of Two and a Half Men—and I don't think it will—I think Ashton Kutcher is going to be entertaining as Walden Schmidt. For me, Jon Cryer is at least half of what makes this show, and he remains solid.

I'm definitely interested to see how this reboot will develop over the rest of the season—will you continue to watch?

Reading this review, I'm now glad I avoided it. Let's hope this is the last season of Two and a Half Men. It's run its course. Adn without Sheen, it's time to move on. Thanks for the review though. Now I know I missed nothing worth watching in the first place.

    • jenn says:

Well said… I agree totally! I watched and I will stick to the reruns. Plus, it was not an appropriate removal of a character as significant as Charlie… It was very unfunny, crude and Ashton's character was creepy, dopey and uncool! I'm totally disinterested in the new shows!

      • Disappointing says:

I agree. The show was going to go for another couple of years and it would have been time to end it anyways.

But last night's premiere sucked big time! When you remove the star of the show and install a one trick pony like Kutcher as the star, there's something seriously wrong with the production team.

Thank god for reruns and I guarantee you that's where the fans of the show are going to disappear towards. It's over Chuck Lorre – you made a mistake getting rid of Sheen (and believe me I don't like Sheen's off-screen antics either).

Maybe if you beg and beg a lot btw, Sheen might be coaxed into coming back and propping up you and the rest of the cast and crew for another season or two, but then again I don't know if that's even possible now.

      • Jay says:

Agree! I've seen 9.1 too and I've to mention it doesn't work – the gags are as flat as a pancake as they already was with Charlie but it was his typical cynical style which glid that shit nobody would watch without him. Time for the emergency brake; time to stop TAAHM. It really is the point of no return for what it was and never will become again: funny!!!

        • Phillip says:

Tottally agree, I just watched the second episode, and I have to say, I never wanted a show to end so bad!! I can't believe they replaced Charlie this way, how can Alan, Berta and his Mom are so ok with all this?

He was not the best guy in the world, but he had his moments… oh god Lorre, what have you done?!

  2. Ken says:

The show was horrible, not funny, juvenile and a big disappointment. I watched to see if Charlie could be replaced and now, without a doubt, no he can't.

  3. Aidan Williams says:

That was a really great episode i cant wait for episode 2 it was so funny. I'm so amazed with Ashton he was so funny. Congrats to the crew and Chuck Lorre.

    • hans says:

      you're an idiot !

      • A True 'Men&#03 says:

hey if you were a true fan of the show, you would support the show despite charlie's departure. honestly, i hated charlie's character. jon was funnier and his character hasn't changed. even with ashton as the new lead, i very highly doubt this show is gonna be cancelled cuz people like me actually enjoy the show despite certain changes. if you don't like the show, you probably never watched it in the first place even when charlie was in it. you can hate on it as much as you want cuz there's still millions of people that are watching this show and love it despite the changes. so no matter what you say or do, it changes nothing. two and a half men is here to stay!

    • bogie says:

Not even close to being funny

    • dparti says:

r u crazy, u find season 9 great??? let me ask you one thing hv u seen the previous season at all??…..

this show is great because of 3 amazing actor and one of them is not in the show now which was the lead of the show and now you find it great u gotta b kidding..

  4. Derek says:

The reviewer must have had rose coloured glasses on when reviewing this show. If not, I want whatever drugs she's taking. The show sucked with Kutcher doing his Kelso routine minus the drugs or goofy charm.

    • TheSanjMan says:

You're right, the Kelso routine was border-line funny every once and a while. Now that he has the lead, his shit is going to get old real fast, unless you're already an Ashton fan.

  5. Jon Lachonis says:

This is actually my first time watching the series ever and I actually loved it! I do think Kutcher has developed an archetype for all of his characters, but it was expected. I'm going to go back and watch some Sheen era episodes to compare.

  6. Nadia says:

I'm not a fan of the show, but often watched it because my daughter loved it. I don't like a new one, not funny at all. Now I see that Charlie was the main reason we kept watching.

  7. TGH says:

I just finished watching the premier myself and after the funeral it went down hill. It was like watching the 70's show all over again and I hated that show. What was Lorre thinking when he hired Ashton? Did he get the part because of his wife Demi or that he has a large following on Twitter? That casting was a huge mistake. Watching Ashton was just like watching an older Jake.

    • JoAnn says:

Agree 100%! Totally not impressed with the first episode. I have said all along that Ashton was a poor choice to replace Charlie. I thought his character was creepy and wimpy. I just never have been a Kutcher fan and don't see this role changing my opinion.

      • Disappointed says:

Totally agree with you. Many loyal fans are venting online right now. Ditching Charlie Sheen was a bad idea to start with. They could have waited it out to see if he was going get past his problems.

But in the meantime they had the choice of brilliant comedians like Jon Lovitz and Richard Lewis, both of whom guest starred on the show.

  8. aman says:

Stop hating you guys. The show was good and it will only get better. Dont try to compare. Sheen was one of his kind. Give kutcher a chance. For the rest to the casts sake. Hope the show goes on for a few more years. Even without Sheen it still is one of the best shows on TV. Maybe not as good as before. But better than the rest. :)

  9. boris says:

i too was sad when sheen left and knew he cant be replaces but that's what lorre thought too and didnt introduce kutcher as charlie harper but as the new man walden,we all know charlie was great but two and a half men wasn't a one man show it was great because of the entire team lets hope they gel well with the new guy and two and half men remains as great it was.

  10. Jules says:

I was a huge fan of the show before and was really interested in how they would pull this off. I also went into it with an open mind knowing that I couldn't expect Charlie. I loved it!! It was funny and the other characters are still strong.

  11. Mister Common Sense says:

The show's premiss was based around Charlie Sheen's real life.It was about a guy who bang's not about a guy who "HAS" bang's!

  12. JKai says:

Guys listen, this isn't the charlie sheen show… get over it… two and a half men has reached a new era, kutcher was brilliant. I'll admit there is a bit of a Kelso essence to his Walden act but this is only the first episode. Watch a few more episodes and then critique him if you feel the need.

    • Meg says:

The "era" is OVER. Show has been on for 8 season and now is limping into it's 9th by killing off one of the "Harper" brothers and THINKING that's a hilarious premise to base a new season on…Uhm..NOT. The show is too old to have a new era, it lost it's star, and the premiere sounds like it was based entirely off of Sheen character still. Joh Cryer said most of the season will surround the character Charlie Harper's death. How exactly is this show moving on when Charlie Sheen's "Charlie Haaprer" is still essentially the basis of the show?

      • Disappointing says:

Agreed Meg. Lorre and co. were so desperate that they had to bring back all of Charlie Harper's ex-girlfriends just to prop up the premiere. I'll give it a couple of more episodes just out of curiosity, but based on what I saw last night, the Charlie Sheen Show died when they got rid of its star.

Ashton Kutcher does a wonderful Kelso though :)

  13. Chrys says:

I didn't laugh…not once. Loved Aston Kutcher in that flick with Amanda Peet, (A lot like Love) I think. So I was really looking forward to seeing him in the opener.

    I just didn't laugh…not once!

  14. mary says:

    God awful.

  15. val says:

Worst show ever. Ashton wwascan't act … not in this show he can't. The lines were written funny but Kutcher can't act. He was so dull, I won't ever watch it again. Truly written well, but this was the wrong choice for the show. It would have been better had they either kept Sheen or let the rest of the cast take over without him. Ratings will fall fast and this show won't last. Bad choice with Ashton, they should pay him not to show up.

  16. JO says:

Ok I was very curious to see where the show was going and behold I was blindsided by a total master piece of CRAP! Watching Ashton walk around the house and never seeing Charlie walk through that front door or coming down the stairs heck even popping in from the kitchen was heart breaking. It just wasn’t the same. Allan looked like a fish out of water and it won’t be long before he’s flopping like a fish on the floor along with the show without Sheen. It’s just not 2 1/2 Men without Sheen. That was the show not this what ever it was. Come on CBS think about it this way does the 4th of July feel right without fireworks? Chuck Lorre you show us that Charlie Sheen was right ALL ALONG your pathetic attempt to bash Charlie Harper was tasteless, cowardly, classless and childish. You didn’t attack Charlie Sheen you attacked Charlie Harper and the fans of the show. You attacked the heart of everything the FANS! You are a TROLL and you showed it tonight!!! R.I.P 2 1/2 Men you shall be missed

  17. Bhuwan Madaan says:

without sheen it was just okie. I am not a fan of kutcher but I will still watch the show just because of john cryer. That man knows comedy. Eagerly waiting for charlie sheen new sitcom- anger management. I am sure it will rock and will be big success for him. And just for the record mr. kutcher, getting naked on tv is not funny at all…u suck. sheen rules..

  18. vin says:

the show was a huge disappointment…

no one can replace charlie sheen…kutcher is good but the show has lost its charm and i dont think i am going to watch it again

RIP 21/2 men…it was a great show and I had run its course,,

  19. Linda Haag says:

Not impressed, I had high hopes for Ashton. Hoping he would have been a more mature character, I found his character silly and annoying. Sorry, felt like I was watching a show like Fast Times At Ridgemont High or something like that. Very immature. Don't think I have an interest in watching it anymore. I will keep watching the re-runs. Not just because of Charlie Sheen, but because of the kind of character he played. And dumping Charlies ashes, are u serious. That was his brother for Gods sake. Sucking them up in a hand vac, ru serious. How insulting to the viewers to make fun of death. And trying to make Rose look like a murder is stupid. Also, if Charlie gave so many women STD's that would have to have been part of the old shows don't you think. DUH Also, see Ashton naked was not so impressive. You guys better serious this thing up or it's history

  20. susan says:

The show was a joke. Ashton's character was another Jake…overacting and immature. Granted he wasn't supposed to be Charlie, but his character was awful. There were no funny parts in the show and to disrespect death that way wasn't funny in the least. It seems they were taking shots at Charlie Sheen the person and not ending Charlie the character. They made that portion too personal of an attack. I won't watch the show…wasn't worth my time. Though I did go into it with an open mind. I think this show is over just like so many others…it is hard to replace the main character. Didn't laugh once.

  21. mostness says:

While I enjoyed 2 1/2 men and some of charlie’s antics, after watching this season’s premier I realised Charlie’s character was not my favourite. I prefer Alan’s character and I’m glad to see this character and the other characters remain the same.

Admittedly, the episode was stiff (also overdone during the funeral)and Walden is a bit of an unbelievable character, but I’m curious how this plays out. I do like looking at Ashton and I hope he moves away from idiot savant soon cause that trick will tire soon.

The laughtrack throughout the show was a bit distracting though, was it ever used that much before?

  22. Ascension18 says:

I've been eagerly waiting for the season premiere for awhile now and I was hoping that the show somehow can carry on its charm and wit that's associated with the show since season 1. While the rest of the cast are still going strong everything else was a total failure. I mean what the hell were they thinking when they created this crappy episode. Everything from the premise of the episode to Ashton Kutcher's character was garbage. The writing and send off for Charlie Harper's character was equally bad and distasteful. Instead of concentrating and focusing on creating a storyline that carries on the original charm of the series, or coming up with something entertaining that can make Ashton's character fit into the show and make the transition smooth they spent almost the whole episode on bashing and defiling Charlie's character. A couple of jokes to poke at his death wouldn't be bad but the writing was specifically meant to rip him a new one even after he's gone. They've gave lines to the cast that was completely out of character and they turned gave Charlie a whole bunch of stds out of the blue. Since when did he have so much stds and when did his serious girlfriends hate him that much? To rib at Charlie Sheen for what happened in real life is one thing but to destroy the character of Charlie Harper and the spirit of the show with tasteless writing is another. It's such a huge disappointment for the fans who was hoping that Two and a Half Men can carry on without Sheen, after tonight's episode I'm pretty sure the series will crash and burn if the writing stays the way it is.

    • Yaser says:

      100% true

      • Nick says:

I totally agree. I had to watch the show to see how they handled the removal of Charlie. I did laugh a few times while watching the show, BUT that whole funeral scene was uncomfortable to watch. It was completely disrespectful. His mother trying to pander the house during Charlie's funeral??? Come on. Evelyn LOVED Charlie. If it was Alan that passed, I could totally see it. For how bad their relationship was, Charlie's mom loved him and would have been devastated at the funeral. The only good part of the show was the 2 minutes that Alan spent being sincere with Charlie's ashes. They completely disrespected Charlie Harper to get back at Charlie Sheen. That was done in completely poor taste in my opinion.

    • Persona says:

      Totally agree.

  23. Yaser says:

i think the first episode is the only slightly funny one but it' going to be down hell from there, some are saying watch it for the rest of the cast but firt rose wont be there anymore and it would be lame if she becomes a stalker for walden ,second it would be lamer if walden asks allen to move in with him while they just met that apllies for the rest of the cast, finally i think chilsea should have been sad at the memorial i mean she had a good thing going with charlie at least respecting his fans

over all it kinda sucks it's scrubs all over again

  24. J says:

THIS SHOW SUCKED ,WILL NOT WATCH AGAIN ,THE NETWORK NEEDS TO KISS CHARLIE SHEENS ASS AND GET HIM BACK !

  25. Insert Name Here says:

I enjoyed this episode. Unlike so many other people I enjoy change, and even though I don't like Kutcher at all, I did enjoy his preformance. It wasn't the greatest episode ever, but it was funny. And by the way; those who want a "non-disrespectful" ending must realise their completely sentimental episode wouldn't be funny at all.

P.S. I lol'd so hard when Alan dropped the ashes, and I loved Charlie Sheen and still do. No disrespect, just funny. I hope Sheen can see the funny side of this too.

    • TheSanjMan says:

Honestly, Alan dropping the ashes was funny, but as soon as ashton came in and walked all over it…it wiped the smile of my face. Ashton’s performance was the same thing he always does, not funny and creepy. This show is guaranteed to lose many of its fans, including me. But unfortunately, ashton fans that never watched the show before, will flock to him. Read these commentsand see how many people say they never watched this show before and want to check it out now.

  26. jan says:

The show was MUCH worse than expected. I watched it to give it a chance but I will stick to the reruns. I hoped the show could be funny without Charlie, but now I'm convinced that it is not! In fact, the funeral scene was unfunny and crude… not appropriate for a character that fans of the show are so very fond of… Ashton's character was dopey, uncool, and just creepy. RIP Two and a Half Men… it was a great run!

  27. Zenon says:

    Season premiere was just shit.

Two and a Half Men has officially hit rock bottom,

the only time I even slightly smiled was when Ashton Kutcher said he wanted to commit suicide.

Ashton, no disrespect buddy, you're a good actor, but the show is ruined.

Chuck (CUNT) Lorre, you are a disgrace, and I think you should go kill yourself, because you destroyed one of my favourite shows in some desperate attempt to keep making money.

    FUCK YOU

    FUCK THE NEW SHOW

    that is all.

  28. Steveba50 says:

Ashton Kutcher-wooden acting at its best

    Tasteless pointless nudity

Rose murders Charlie…..yeh way to go for a comedy sitcom that will work….NOT!

Jon Cryer making a valiant effort to carry the show but it was really noticeable that him and Charlie have chemistry together and now that's gone .

Chuck your the one who should be sacked….sooner the better….your a good producer but now your decisions are juvenile and moronic.

I predict this show will die half way through it's season.

John Cryer you did your best man but get your agent working on finding a new job unless your can remove that bonghead Ashton Kutcher he's dragging you down.

    • TheSanjMan says:

Tasteless pointless nudity… you know ashton is not attracting anyone with his acting, so they have to appeal to his fan base who don't care if he is a idiot and a faggot, they just want to look at him walk through out the house naked. Get Charlie Back!

  29. Connie says:

    LOSING !!!!!

What as waste of time, not funny, c'mon a billionaire just happens attempting suicide ??? Running around naked? Dude you need rehab!!

You are a pervert with you story lines & this show is now a flop !!!

  30. melia says:

I was looking forward to watching this episode.. Wanted to see if Ashton could actually fill Charlies shoes.. Ashton you are not funny.. Maybe you were trying to grow from Kelso but that was just horrible dude… I feel sorry for the show.. I think Ashton should stick to just babysitting Demi's kids… The show really was not funny.. Was kinda hoping Charlie would jump in at any moment saying "just kidding.. I'm still here" but sadly the end of the show came and no Charlie… Sad day for TV… :(

  31. Skyler says:

Of course the show is destroyed in my review I state that the show following has a big part if two and a half men will survive and it wont! Here is a legit review from an unbiased opinion unlike this clown http://pokerannihilation.com/home/?p=155

  32. stevie packer says:

The premier was like watching a bad movie sequel. You loved the first version, went in with high hopes for the second, and left disappointed. I will watch future episodes because if anyone can make a show funny it's Chuck Lorre, but he's got his work cut out for him. Finally, the reviewer dissed Martin Mull's character by simply referring to him as a "drug dealer." Sorry, he was Charlie's nutty pharmacist who kept Charlie … well, let's say "supplied." Mull is brilliant and his bit parts over the years have always added to this show.

  33. Minsky says:

Been a fan of the show for some time and really wanted to give it a chance. Unfortunately, it failed on so many levels and just not funny at all. There is just no chemistry between Kutcher and Cryer. Oh well another great show bites the dust.

  34. Samir says:

Ashton failed poorly, sad to say but 2.5 men was a one man show and that was charlie sheen.totaly disapointed.this show rocked an era but now its end time

  35. Karin says:

The show was not that bad:)

I think Kutcher brings a new something to the Two and half man show! He was cute and seems a bit innocent. I ams sure is character will develop better in each episode. Besides Charlie didnt have to acted because he was consumming drugs and was drunk all the way . I think Kutcher will give a new fresh touch to the show. I am looking forward to the next episode!

    • Ascension18 says:

What are you babbling about? How does Kutcher being "cute and a bit innocent" add anything to the show's comedy and charm? And Charlie can't act cause hes drunk and consumming drugs? He partied hard in real life while he was still working for the show and he showed up to work sharp and delivered every line with accuracy that captures the comedy from the writing. I suppose Kutcher has to act when all he does is prance around naked?? You have no idea what the hell you're talking about damn troll.

  36. lionel charrion says:

This show is pure crap ! What a waste of time ! It was a total vendetta from the producer again Charlie no more no less! Totally disprectful to the fans ! LOOSING !

  37. Gina says:

I have always enjoyed the show. Charlie Sheen was great as Charlie Harper but given the circumstances they had to get rid of him in some way. I actually thought it was funny . . . the funeral scene could have been toned down a little. I like Ashton Kutcher and I thought he was funny . . . he did remind me a little of Kelso. Jon Cryer and the rest of the cast are great and I am hoping that the show will overcome the akwardness of this first show without Charlie Sheen.

  38. timbo says:

Wow! JO couldn't have said it better.

I'm so shocked that people aren't allowed to express their opinions without so many sufferers of low esteem calling them haters. I'm not hating on the show; I knew the quality would suffer because of Sheen's departure, I just never imagined it would have fallen so flat! All I could see in this episode was Lorre saying "nanny, nanny, boo-boo". The script was so viciously against the character, it was obvious the entire episode was a middle finger to Sheen.

Bottom line: two 4 year olds got into a pissing match and destroyed mom and dad's favorite collectors item. At least we'll have re-runs.

  39. Tony says:

    Dissappointing….

The whole episode was a failed attempt to kick charlie sheens ass. The only thing i took out of Ashton kutcher was just him being the same kind of bimbo that kelso was. No offense or anything but he does not fit in with the show at all. I have to give a hands down to Cryer though he has always been a huge help to the show. Overall I think that they should have just wrapped up the show right after the whole Chelsea deal mainly because sheen started to look a lot older and more senior citizen-ish than before and because the whole fiasco with rose was just a plain nightmare!!! It started to become more of a soap opera with Alan stealing from them, Charlie going after his stalker and so on. I LOVED the show but overall but they should have left it strong, hilarious, and a show people would fondly remember. But now when I think of two and a half men I think of Lorre's butchery on what used to be a truly amazing quality show. P.S How could everyone be that hateful to him especially Chelsea!?!!?! That made Lorre's attempt to hate on Sheen way too obvious!!!!!

Walden=Older Jake… so what's point? Bye bye two and a half men. R.I.P for this show.

  41. Carlita says:

Not funny at all. You could tell the writers were mad at Charlie because they not only gave him every imaginable STD but they made him bisexual, and broke. Very bad. I wish they'd bring Charlie back or retire the show.

  42. Shana says:

    I miss Charlie!!!!!!!!

  43. Shana says:

Charlie Harper was the greatness of the show, bottom line. Yes, Jon cryer is a fantastic actor but the interplay between him and Charlie is what was special and not easily replaced. When someone as talented as Charlie Sheen acts up, you need to roll with the punches. Genius and "crazy" go hand in hand very often. It's not okay to support someone when they are up and then reject them when they are down. No-one ever can be as good as Charlie Sheen on that show. He was genuine and that is what people loved! Charlie, know that you are deeply missed.

I actually enjoyed this episode. Not really being a fan of the show after the first couple of seasons, I tuned in last night out of pure curiosity (As I'm guessing a good 50% of the 28 million viewers last night did, too). I was pleasantly surprised. Sure, maybe Ashton Kutcher is playing off the whole goofy "Kelso" character yet again..but it seemed a bit more mature this time around. Of the episodes I have watched over the years, I enjoyed the supporting cast far more than Charlie Sheen's one-liners. Alan, Evelyn and Berta were funny as always. They need to write the "Half-Man" (Jake) better jokes though – farting and over eating could get real old real fast. Overall, I actually managed to watch the entire premiere episode and even chuckled a good few times! That's more than I can say about the past few seasons with Charlie Sheen. I'll likely tune in next week to see where it goes..

  45. Willy Tanner says:

People should take into account this was not a regular episode but a transition one, one saying "OK, SO SHEEN IS GONE AND THIS IS THE NEW GUY" The whole episode revolved around what happened to Charlie and who is Walden. The rest of the characters had minimal participation, having Alan moving the viewer through the topics, now thet the "big questions" have been answered, we'll be able to see more about the character itself, and some proper interactions with Berta, Evelyn, Jake and the rest of the characters. Then we'll be able to judge how the whole thing turn out.

    Cheers!

Jeez, whats with the swearing and hatred, it's just a 'f**king' TV show, is it really necessary to call people idiots and hurl abuse, sad sack mother f**kers, get a life and stop hiding behind your grubby little keyboards because your too much of a pussy to say shit like that to peoples faces. Anyway…the show, I am a massive fan of Two and Half Men, I've seen every episode at least twice. I didn't have very high expectations for the new show but actually found it reasonably entertaining. Comparing Ashton to Charlie is pointless, we just need to get over Charlie leaving the show and take the new season on it's own merits. I don't think Charlie was the only reason the original Two and Half Men was funny, Alan accounted for half the laughs and it seems to me there is good chemistry between Alan and Walden. It's better then nothing at all and I look forward to seeing what the rest of the show brings, I too hope Walden's character will man up and I'm sure some time with the Harpers will make that happen.

  47. Don Perion says:

The show has officially hit rock bottom and over 28 million viewers have witnessed Charlie's and the show's death! Way to go Chucky on opening the premiere on a low note. Will need to get some anger management treatment now that the show is over. Was one hell of a run. Shoulda casted Stiffler over Ashton, at least we would of had some FUCKIN comedy!

  48. stevie packer says:

It seems the only people who liked the show are Kutcher fans … (excuse me, I just threw up a little in my mouth). If the show flops with Kutcher there still is an out … there was no body that could be viewed at the funeral, even by the characters (since they couldn't produce one for the viewers). And it was ROSE who was involved. So — and she's done it before — could she have Charlie in a drug-induced semi-coma somewhere? Charlie escapes and voila, he's back. Charlie Sheen's recent appearances and at the roast indicates he's willing to apologize, kiss and make up … the loss of A LOT OF MONEY could force Lorre and the rest of the show's producers to do the same.

  49. Pat Bennet says:

    GET SHEEN BACK!

  50. Samisam says:

Get Charlie back to the show , you are killing it and you think you are not? Love Ashton but still this show is all about Charlie Sheen . The sheenies is the best

  51. Timothy Marton says:

I've watched every episode quite a few times reruns and all and seriously I laughed a few times in 8 years but …. I think I never laughed so much as in the last 2 episodes and for 8 years of laughter surpassed in 40 minutes thats wrong XD

Honestly I liked Charlie Harper as a character but for me Alan was the life of the show most of the time it was his problems we focused on him Judith Jake, charlie was always with some chick and when around the house he was a plain jerk to Alan they never had good chemistry as characters the actors might have but the characters were worlds far apart.

Now the way I look at it Walden is the brother Alan never had, understands him looks up to him and is FAIR with him.

I will never forget that one episode where charlie screws up for chelsea and he has to sleep on the couch and sends Alan down and Chelsea goes down to apologize and yells at Alan for being a pervert …. so what Charlies inocent now Alan didnt even know whats going on and charlie brings him down too he set it up

this was going on for 8 years

While now what happened Walden got in a jam and Alan saved his ass and he wouldve done this for charlie and walden would probably do it for Alan but dont count on charlie to save anybodys ass but his own.

If anything the show has evolved all the great characters returned with a new addition.

Now Im not saying Ashton was their best Choice John Stamos would've been better that wouldve been the best charlie replacment. Ashton still needs to bulk up the role even though I like this season more Im still just getting used to it as anyone, but at least Alan kept the fire alive in the show Brilliant preformance last night from both. Big improvment from last week … seriously …

I Hope it works out for the best for the show, Im tuning in every week thats for sure

  52. Stevie says:

Fail worse than i ever expected thought it would be maybe alright with Ashton NOPE!! Chuck Lorre your an idiot .. Chuck Lorre #Losing Charlie Sheen #Winning

  53. checho says:

Oh man I did not even chuckle on that episode, on the other hand the roast on CS was great.

toooo much poisoning of CS on that episode, truly it was a middle finger to him, and the sad part is that IT DID NOT WORK!!!!

  54. Menno says:

Two and a half men is nothing without Charlie Sheen. I actually felt like the producers tried to put so much dirt on Charlie just to get some attention for the new series that I was hassitant to watch it. Yet I did and I would wish I could take it back. In the first series it shows that, without any humoristic faetures at all, they tried to break Charlie from the series and put him off a lot worse than he was.

Charlie's character was amazing. The reason he did his part so greatly was because he didn't have to act. He could just be himself. That is why he, and nobody else, can fill the void that was left with him leaving the show. They left a lot of lose ends with the show, for example the love he had felt for Jake and Chelsea. What happened to that? And what happened to Jake's amazing role? I have watched 2 episodes now and he said what, two lines maybe.

And what can we say about Ashton Kutcher? Not only does he not fit the role he tries to force on himself, he can not even act like it does. He stupidly chose to be part of this dieing show, which will not help his career.

In short? They killed the show… Without Charlie there is no Two and a half men.

  55. Carla says:

Oh my God! This show is horrible please don’t play anymore episodes because no one wants to see them. I thought of a great way to bring

Sheen back let’s just pretend these few episodes with Ashton was a long dream, and when someone wakes up Charlie will be back, and the show will be funny as hell like it use to be.

  56. Persona says:

Is not "resisting to the change" as some people says. I like new things. It's only there are things that are good ideas and others that aren't. Maybe perople who never watched the original show, fans of Kutcher or girls looking for 'pretty faces' can like this, but it's not the same show. I also hate how childishly a person can be denigrating a character that way, just for having problems with the actor who played him (that's like obvious).
The show is a sitcom, a comedy, but I have never seen in it so many random incoherences and absurd stuff in it. The original one had, at least, its own sense.
Well, everything has its fans. If someone creates "The talking turd who fucks your mom" it automatically will get some fan circle. Maybe cause that, this "show" could still on for some time…

  57. Gerard says:

Vulgarity is not funny. Get the original writers back. This show SUCKS!

  58. Duesseldorf says:

NO charlie….. NO Two and half men…Charlie Germany love U
