It's Official. Charlie Sheen Has Been Axed From "Two and a Half Men" - Update: Sheen Responds

Seems like someone isn't "winning" so much after all.

CNN and Deadline just announced that the "tiger blooded" Charlie Sheen has offiicially been axed from Two and a Half Men "effective immediately." Here's the quick statement from Warner Bros. :

After careful consideration, Warner Bros. Television has terminated Charlie Sheen’s services on Two and a Half Men effective immediately.

Wow.

CBS also just contacted CNN to say that they haven't made any decision regarding the future of the hit sitcom, which means that it still may go on, but without Sheen as the star.

Sheen hasn't made a Tweet yet about his firing, but the last Tweet from his account is an employment opportunity to work as his intern. Excuse me, his "winning Intern with Tiger Blood," The Tweet gives a link for anyone who wants to have any part in that madness.

The troubled star has been lashing out at CBS, Two and a Half Men co-creator Chad Lorre, and Warner Bros. (all bosses of his, mind you) in the last couple of weeks and has engaged in a whirlwind of interviews with various news outlets to candidly talk about his position with the show. Sheen recently had a webcast called Charlie's Korner that premiered this weekend and his Twitter account has hit close to two million followers and counting since the account was made last Wednesday.

Despite Sheen's troubles, he's still making dough. It was recently reported that Sheen could make a million dollars a year by tweeting and promoting products through his tweets. So even though he's been fired from the #1 comedy in the nation, the man is still making tons of money.

More on this story as it develops.

UPDATE: Sheen responds to his firing via his #1 mouthpiece, TMZ.com:

"This is very good news. They continue to be in breach, like so many whales. It is a big day of gladness at the Sober Valley Lodge because now I can take all of the bazillions, never have to look at whatshiscock again and I never have to put on those silly shirts for as long as this warlock exists in the terrestrial dimension."

Sigh.

Thoughts?

Well, like Charlie says…they're in breach.  Normal people don't have contracts, but actors do.  Charlie has another year on his contract at about $2 million per episode.  Whether the show comes back next year or not, they'll owe Charlie about $48 million.  Of course, they'll try to weasel out of their end of the contract, because he said bad things about the producers of the show.  It'll end up in court, and most likely Charlie will walk away with a big chunk.  But really, does he care?  He made over $40 million this year…I can't imagine that he's hurting for money, even knowing that he writes $30,000 checks to hook…er, porn actresses.

Seriously??!?!? The guy has done nothing wrong and is damn funny. I read the 11 page excuse given by WB on the firing and the claims are outrageous (http://tmz.vo.llnwd.net/o28/newsdesk/tmz_documents/0307_sheen_full_b.pdf). Since when is saying ridiculously funny things like "I am on a drug. It's called Charlie Sheen. . .. If you try it once you will die. Your face will melt off and your children will weep over your exploded body." grounds for termination? Yes people, WB cited that statement as one of the reasons Mr. Sheen is in breach of contract.

I understand that he has been more than insulting to show creator Chuck Lorre, but I have read the vanity cards put out by said creator and they are just as insulting to Mr. Sheen. This is just stupid and outrageous. For WB & CBS to pull the highest rated comedy on TV off the air because they don't like what the star of it has to say about the producers and the network is the height of hypocrisy. As for Mr. Sheen's alleged drug use: He has since both complied with the producers wishes for him to enter treatment and subsequently tested NEGATIVE for ALL illegal substances. I would like the network and producers to find me a case where talent has been fired from a top rated show even after testing negative for drugs.

This is simply a POWER play by Mr. Lorre who has a great deal of pull at both WB and CBS because of the popularity of his two other shows at the network. Notably the success of Big Bang Theory in the difficult Thursday 8:00 pm timeslot has given Mr. Lorre a great deal of clout and he is obviously using his considerable weight to force Mr. Sheen out due to his personal animosity toward the actor. I for one will staunchly avoid any series with Mr. Lorre is attached in the future.

Do you think you would get away with insulting your boss and bringing down the name of your company? I don't believe anyone would go unpunished for that. Sheen's acting gig does not make him special or any different. Act out of line you're going to get canned.

      • WB = Dumbasses says:

He is under contract and I sincerely doubt that there is a clause in there about insulting his bosses resulting in termination of the contact. It is also important to note that Lorre insulted him first in one of his vanity cards.

The sad thing is that some other venue will want to profit off of his current fame. Famous people get away with almost everything. This guy might not have contractually done anything wrong to his employers before he started badmouthing them to the press, which is something I'm pretty sure you can't do contractually. But imagine if any of us regularly hired prostitutes, threatened our loved ones with violence and actual weapons, did and admitted to doing (tons of) illegal drugs on a regular basis…you think we wouldn't be rotting away in jail for the rest of our lives?  The way the public views stars as untouchable and wonderful and entertaining for all of their felonies and misdemeanors is really creepy.
