Ugly Betty Canceled - Rest of the Season's Episodes Will Air

Ugly Betty fans, we have bad news: the show's producers have been told that this season will be their last.  This is bad news for a show that has suffered unfortunate scheduling problems this year.  First it was moved to Friday nights - which everyone knows is the night where shows goes to die - and then it was moved back to Wednesday nights, but at 10:00 p.m.  A show like Ugly Betty doesn't really belong at 10:00 p.m.

However, the show will not be pulled from the schedule like a lot of canceled shows.  In fact, Variety reports that the series will end in April when it's 20 episodes come to an end.  Fortunately, the producers were given enough notice (there are still 4 more episodes to film) that they will be able to craft a proper end to the series.  Executive producer Silvio Horta said:

"We've mutually come to the difficult decision to make this Ugly Betty's final season, and are announcing now as we want to allow the show ample time to write a satisfying conclusion," Horta and ABC Entertainment Group chairman Steve McPherson said in a joint statement. "We are extremely proud of this groundbreaking series, and felt it was important to give the fans a proper farewell."

Ugly Betty apparently narrowly avoided cancelation last year (which it why it moved from its regular Thursday night spot to Friday nights), but now this just makes it official.  I admit, I used to love this show, but when it moved to Friday nights I didn't keep up with it.  It's too bad, because I hear they're hitting it out of the park this season.
