We had previously reported on speculation that Ugly Betty would be moving to Wednesdays to fill the spot of the recently canceled Eastwick. Now Variety reports that this will, in fact, happen.
This is a very good thing. I fear for Ugly Betty's future if it continues to stay on Friday nights. While I haven't gotten caught up on this season yet, a lot of people have said that it's very, very good. If that's true, then the show would be better served at 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday nights. While the time slot isn't ideal, at least it will have Cougar Town as a lead-in, which will help drive people to the show.
The change will take effect in January when the shows return from the winter hiatus. In the meantime, check out sneak peeks and photos that we posted for this week's new episode of Ugly Betty.
ABC is set to make its long-rumored "Ugly Betty" move to Wednesday nights.
Schedule shift could give "Betty" a boost, as it would now air behind the highly compatible half-hour "Cougar Town."
"Ugly Betty" fills the void left by "Eastwick," which was not picked up for a full season.
Scheduling move shifts "Betty" from what had been a lonely Friday night slot, sandwiched between the reality series "Supernanny" and the newsmag "20/20."
Airing in that rough slot, "Ugly Betty" had been a Nielsen also-ran -- most recently, during the holiday weekend, posting just a 0.9 rating/3 share among adults 18-49.
With "Ugly Betty" moving off Friday, ABC plans to return to a completely non-scripted lineup on the night, replacing the 9 p.m. hour with the reality series "Shark Tank."
