TI & Tiny will be first out of the gate, as their second season premieres Monday, September 3rd at 9:00. Following the rap star and his former r&b singer-turned-entrepreneur wife, the show became a surprise success during its first season, drawing ratings comparable to more outrageous reality fare and being able to time slot jump without losing much audience.
Joining the happy couple will be Basketball Wives star Evelyn Lozada and wide receiver Chad
Ochocinco Johnson in their spin-off Ev & Ocho. Debuting Monday, September 3rd at 9:30, the show will be following the couple as they get ready for the wedding and continue the process of merging their two families together. Interestingly, this will be the first Basketball Wives-related media to air on VH1 since the controversial fourth season, so the ratings for this one should be watched closely.
The third fall premiere will be Basketball Wives: LA, which debuts its second season Monday, September 10th at 8:00. With cast turnover during the hiatus and the introduction of two new wives, the dynamic is sure to be at least a little different, though there’ll be drama, clothing lines, and parties galore. Like Ev & Ocho, I’m curious if the pushback against the original Basketball Wives incarnation will result in depressed ratings for its spin-offs. If so, the original may be in a rather precarious position when it returns in 2013.
In addition to all the reality, VH1 will be airing Something from Nothing: The Art of Rap, a documentary directed by rap pioneer and Law & Order: SVU staple Ice-T, on Thursday, September 13th at 10:00.
Will you be watching any, all, or none of the upcoming VH1 shows? Do you think that Ev & Ocho need their own spin-off? Which VH1 couple is your favorite?
