Elijah Wood Talks Age Defying Looks Whilst Promoting Wilfred on Conan

WilfredElijah Wood was a guest on Conan this week to promote his new FX show Wilfred and the interview took a turn for the bizarre, that almost matched the surreal nature of Wilfred when O’Brien commented on Wood’s endless youth. Many a funny theory was suggested for this lack of ageing including the standard Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray to the less standard vampires who hang out in Venice, Los Angeles near pot dispensaries. Wood says he “freaks people out” when he tells them that he is 30 even though he still looks 18. Both Wood and Conan agree in the end that he has cloned himself and this is where the conversation really goes a bit bonkers, when Wood tries to figure out the benefits of having clones.

To demonstrate this eternal youth, plus to show how long Wood has been in the business (since he was 8) they played one of his first commercials, which essentially told parents to make vegetables more enjoyable by pouring a vat of melted cheese on top. It is cute, disturbing and hilarious all in equal measures and leads Elijah Wood to comment on the product:

“If you’re going to entice your child to eat broccoli, which is ultimately healthy, you don’t want to put something on top of it that could actually negate all of the health you’re putting in the child’s body.”

Wood was there to promote Wilfred which once all the cloning talk was over he did so, but only after Conan asked “What happened to this interview?” There is a clip shown from tonight’s episode “Trust,” revealing the perils that Ryan (Elijah Wood) faces when taking Wilfred (Jason Gann) to the beach (for the promo of this episode head here) and it looks set to continue on the hilarious and surreal path that begun last week.

The premiere episode of Wilfred started strong, with generally strong reviews and 2.6 million viewers that made it FX’s highest audience for a comedy premiere. Let’s hope that the figures continue to impress and that these talk show appearances from Elijah Wood keep the momentum for the show high.

Wilfred airs Thursday at 10 P. M. on FX.
