The 20 Greatest Doctor Who Companions of All Time

BBC production Doctor Who has been on the air since 1963 — though it took a 16-year hiatus between 1989 and 2005. The show features a time-traveling alien Time Lord known as The Doctor, alongside the various people he/she has taken on their travels in their TARDIS device. These assistants are known as “companions” in the celebrated sci-fi series. Over the years of the show, The Doctor has regenerated many times. This process — which is a bit dodgy — leads to the Doctor taking on a new physical form and personality, but retaining memories of the past. The Doctor has regenerated twelve times, and the Thirteenth Doctor is the first female version of the character (played by Jodie Whittaker).

Throughout each regeneration, the Doctor has had a variety of human, alien, and robot companions that have accompanied him (or her) on a lot of wild adventures through time and space. These characters give a lot of life to the series, and could be said to be some of the best parts of the entire television show. So, grab your sonic screwdrivers and read on as we explore the Twenty Greatest Doctor Who Companions of All Time.
