Nominations for the 2016 Critics’ Choice Television Awards were announced early Monday, and it’s pretty clear that The Leftovers isn’t getting left behind. Damon Lindelof’s HBO drama, which was just renewed for a third and final season on Thursday, led the drama field with six nominations, including nods for Best Drama Series, Best Actor (Justin Theroux), and Best Actress (Carrie Coon). Penny Dreadful and Empire also did well, as both series were nominated for Best Drama Series, with Penny Dreadful snagging four nominations in total and Empire receiving three.
On the comedy side, Transparent also netted six nominations, including a Best Actor nod for Jeffery Tambor, who won the award last year. black-ish and You’re the Worst also did well for themselves, scoring four and three nominations, respectively, including ones for Best Comedy Series.
However, while both The Leftovers and Transparent did well in their respective fields, it was Fargo that ended up with the most nominations, with critics honoring the second season of the FX drama with eight total nods in the limited series/TV movie field. The Wiz Live! also performed well in that category, landing five nominations in total.
One quick note: If you’re wondering why shows like Mad Men, Game of Thrones, Silicon Valley, or Justified did not receive any nominations, it’s because the Critics’ Choice Awards’ combined television/film format only allows for series airing within the seven months from June 1 to Dec. 31 to be eligible.
The winners of the Critics’ Choice Awards will be announced during the ceremony on Sunday, Jan. 17, which will be broadcast live on A&E, beginning at 8 p.m. Check out the full list of nominees below:
