I don’t think there are too many people, other than those who were starring in it, who were terribly excited for a new Wonder Woman show on NBC. As soon as the first shots of Friday Night Lights‘ Adrianne Palicki were leaked showing her in what appeared to be a stripper/Halloween costume, everyone thought it would bomb.
It didn’t even get the chance to. The project was nixed before it ever hit the air, and now Palicki is talking about why.
“I’m incredibly proud of that project,” she said to CraveOnline. “I was so grateful to get to play Wonder Woman. That was a childhood dream of mine and I’m proud of the outcome. I do wish it would have gone to series but everything happens for a reason. Looking at it as a positive, I got to work with some amazing actors, [an] amazing writer and I got to wear the outfit. It was not comfortable but it was totally worth it.”
“It was shocking. There were obviously politics involved. It had gotten picked up as far as I knew so when we got that call it was incredibly shocking. We were set up to go to Jimmy Kimmel and everything else so it was a real shock. It was hard to take at first.”
Politics meaning internal NBC drama, not Mitt Romney wanting to cut the funding or something. Really, with SO much negative buzz surrounding it, the project would have had to be amazing for NBC to go forward. Clearly it wasn’t, and you can’t blame them for scrapping it before it aired if that was the case. It happens all the time, just not with characters as high profile as Wonder Woman.
The CW however, is moving forward with their costume-less, Smallville-ish Young Wonder Woman show which sounds more promising.
