It’s the second batch of auditions on tonight’s America’s Got Talent. Half of the acts that performed I find a tad on the dull side. The dog who could count I have seen before, so that’s not different nor new. Diavolo’s performance was a bit better than Mia the dog’s, but it did not impress me in any way.
The acts that did manage to impress me were singers. First, there was Chase Goehring, who sang an original song called Hurt. His musical style reminds me of last year’s winner, Grace Vanderwaal in some aspects. If I had to critique one thing, it would be that he needs to work on his vocals a bit. Some of the notes he sang were a bit off. Then came nine-year-old Angelica Hale. She performed her rendition of Andra Day’s Rise Up. The performance is excellent. However, I have my doubts about her making it to the finals.
The final singing act that impressed not only me but Simon Cowell is a young woman named Mandy Harvey. She lost her hearing when she was eighteen, but did not want to give up on her dream of becoming a singer. Harvey performed an original song, Try, which led the aforementioned judge to press the Golden Buzzer. I admire her courage to keep chasing her dreams, and her story inspires me to keep on pursuing my dreams.
Side Notes:
Colin Cloud’s act was nothing short of amazing. It’s quite similar to The Clairvoyants from last year but more along the lines of prediction and channeling Sherlock Holmes. When he took out a white kitten named Oscar, my jaw dropped. What in the world just happened?! He should team up with Simon and take over the world. #LOL
The motorcycle entrance by the judges was cool. Though when Howie entered the theater on a small children’s bike, it almost made me do a spit take.
Jimmy’s balancing act was borderline boring and had no talent whatsoever. If he did it in a comedic way, I would have understood. Howie and Mel B both thought it was hilarious, but like Heidi and Simon, I failed to see the humor in it. I also don’t know how the Azeri Brothers made it through, but I guess their act is dangerous enough to make people want to see more.
I enjoyed Nick Uhas’ science act. It was highly amusing to hear the judges sound like Darth Vader when they inhaled the sulfur hexafluoride gas in the balloons that Nick provided. I am intrigued to see what he’s got up his sleeve in the next round.
