‘Awkward Family Photos’ Lands On ABC; BET’s ‘The Game’ Begins Production

Get ready to view some Awkward Family Photos from ABC, while BET gears up for the return of the CW short-lived sitcom, The Game.

The Hollywood Reporter broke news of the latest in the line of comedic ideas from a website/viral source. The first was the CBS freshman comedy $#*! My Dad Says, starring William Shatner, and the second one is the in-development SHHH…. Don’t Tell Steve, which was also picked up by CBS.

Based on a popular blog and book created by Mike Bender and Doug Chernack, Awkward Family Photos features some of the most eye-brow raising photos featuring family members in awkward poses or scenarios. Now, who would send in photos of their own family in some questionable, laugh out loud positions is beyond me. How the studio will manage to turn this into a scripted comedy is even far more complexing, but I have seen stranger things happen.

Executive producers of the show will be Bender, Chernack, Moses Port, David Guarascio, and Joe & Anthony Russo. The Russos will direct, while Port and Guarascio will serves as writers on the show.

Over at BET, production of The Game began this week in Atlanta with new episodes slated to air starting January 11, 2011 @ 10/9c, according to Variety.

The original cast and crew are back, including the husband and wife creative team, Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil. Running The Game has become a bicoastal endeavor with Brock Akil managing the writers room in L.A., and Salim Akil overseeing production in the ATL area. In short, despite the change of locale, we can safely say that the show is in good hands and will bring the fans great joy in January.
