Right out of the gates Aziz Ansari pulled no punches in going after the new President of the United States: Donald Trump. Within seconds Ansari said “Pretty cool to know though that he’s probably at home right now watching a brown guy making fun of him though, right?” You knew that right after that line he’d be on the offensive for the rest of the monologue, and he sure was. Ansari pointed out that only a day after the inauguration an “entire” gender was protesting against his administration.
The comedian went on to compare Donald Trump to Chris Brown calling him the “Chris Brown of politics” essentially saying that the American people don’t necessarily condone what he does off the stage but they still like his music anyway.
So far we haven’t had any tweets from Trump bashing Ansari’s performance which is a surprise to many. But Ansari’s semi-nice, almost subtle bashing of Donald Trump might not have been too offensive too him. Or maybe Trump’s advisors actually got a hold of him this time and told him to lay off social media. Then again, we’re talking hours, only one day after Trump’s been inaugurated. It’s quite possible he hasn’t seen Ansari’s routine and TIVO’d it at the White House.
One thing you can probably count on is Trump at some point putting out a Federal mandate to cancel SNL. I just don’t think his ego can handle this. We’re talking four years of him being made fun of every single week? I’m not just seeing it.
Anyway, you can check out the monologue above. It’s certainly worth a watch.
